Electronic devices with curved display surfaces

An electronic device may have light-emitting devices. A light-emitting device may include light-emitting diodes, a display, or other components that emit visual output. One or more image transport layers may be included in the electronic device. An image transport layer may have an input surface that receives an image and an output surface to which the image transport layer transports the image for viewing by a user. The image transport layers may have areas with compound curvature and other shapes. Deformed image transport layer structures such as deformed fibers in a coherent fiber bundle may be configured to hide gaps in displays and other structures. Displays may include light detectors that serve as a two-dimensional touch sensor. The touch sensor may detect touch input on an output surface of an image transport layer. Image transport layer material may be incorporated into buttons, elongated housings, wearable devices, and other equipment.

A functional module is applied in a front light module of a display device. The functional module includes a composite cover structure having a first plate and a second plate and a reflective display panel. The second plate is located between the first plate and the reflective display panel. At least one medium layer is located between the first plate of the composite cover structure and the reflective display panel. The refractive index of the medium layer is greater than or equal to 1 and is smaller than 1.474.

Toroidal non-glary luminaire

A non-glare luminaire includes a toroidal-shaped light engine having light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed about the light engine in a radial pattern. The light engine has an axial direction that is at least substantially orthogonal to the surface of the light engine. An anti-glare ring is disposed proximate the light engine and includes reflectors arranged in a radial pattern. Each reflector is configured to reflect tangentially oriented light from at least one of the LEDs substantially along the axial direction. The luminaire also includes a toroidal integrated optic (TIO), which is made up of a total internal reflectance (TIR) lens that is coupled with a light guide. The TIO optic has a toroidal lens portion having a light entrance side that receives light from the LEDs and the reflectors. The optic collimates the light received from the LEDs and the reflectors and emit the light via a light exit side.

A non-glare luminaire includes a toroidal-shaped light engine having light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed about the light engine in a radial pattern. A light projection apparatus is provided comprising: a source of light; a switchable grating on a first substrate; and a diffractive optical element. Light is diffracted at least once by the switchable grating and is diffracted at least once by the DOE.

A light source apparatus according to an aspect of the present disclosure includes a light source section that emits first light and excitation light having a first wavelength band, a light guide that causes the first light emitted from the light source section to propagate, a wavelength converter including a phosphor that emits second light having a wavelength band different from the wavelength band of the excitation light when the wavelength converter is excited with the excitation light emitted from the light source section, and a light combiner that combines the first light having exited out of the light guide with the second light having exited out of the wavelength converter. The light guide and the wavelength converter are disposed side by side, and a light transmissive member that transmits the first light is provided between the light source section and the light guide.
