A light-guiding structure according to the invention is used in an endoscope for guiding light along a lengthwise direction and includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion extends in a single cross section along the lengthwise direction. The second portion extends in a varying cross section along the lengthwise direction and is connected to an end of the first portion in the lengthwise direction. An endoscope tip includes a circuit board, an image-capturing component, a light-emitting component, and the light-guiding structure. The light-guiding structure can fit the contours of the circuit board and the image-capturing component to increase space usage for obtaining more cross-sectional area. For the production of the light-guiding structure, the second portion is formed by shaping a portion directly extending form the end of the first portion or by an additional material directly bonded to the end of the first portion by molding.

An endoscope system includes: a processor that generates first and second feature amount distribution images of a living tissue from an imaged image of the living tissue and generates a second feature amount distribution processed image from these distribution images; and a display that displays the second feature amount distribution processed image. The processor generates a mask image of the second feature amount distribution image by, in the first feature amount distribution image, setting a pixel whose pixel value representing the first feature amount is less than a lower limit value as a non-transmissive pixel having a transmittance of zero and setting a pixel between an upper limit value and the lower limit value as a transmissive pixel while giving the pixel a transmittance determined continuously or stepwise in accordance with the pixel value in the first feature amount distribution image.

ENDOSCOPIC CAMERA ARRANGEMENT AND METHOD FOR CAMERA ALIGNMENT ERROR CORRECTION
20230125959 · 2023-04-27 · ·

Augmented reality applications require precise camera calibration to reduce the overall target registration errors. The camera calibration determines the mathematical model of the camera in order to determine how the physical world space is mapped to the camera image space and thus is highly dependent on the optics of the camera. The camera calibration algorithm normally assumes that the optics of the camera is rigidly fixed, which in fact is not at least for tilted laparoscopic cameras as illustrated in FIGS. 6 to 8. Furthermore, any mechanical play between elements of the objective and the image converter will render the optics variable. According to the invention markers to will be placed within the field of view of the laparoscopic camera, which allows for determination of rotation of the optical part and mechanical misalignment without the necessity or providing any additional sensor.
