An image forming apparatus includes a first condition section that derives, from the density of the image detected by an image density detector, a forming condition in forming an image such that the density of the image formed comes close to a predetermined target density, a second condition section that derives, from the environmental state detected by the environmental detector, a forming condition such that the density of the formed image becomes the target density, and a stabilization section that causes, when a difference between the two forming conditions exceeds a predetermined degree, the image forming section to perform a stabilization operation which stabilizes a developing property of the developer in the developing device as compared to the current environmental state, and thereafter causes the formation of an image, the density detection, and the derivation of the forming condition by the first condition section to be performed again.

An image forming apparatus includes a transfer unit that transfers a toner image on an image bearer onto a transfer medium. The image forming apparatus includes a control unit that controls a transfer voltage to be output to the transfer unit in accordance with a certain condition. The control unit applies currents having at least two different values while paper is not being fed. The two current values are lower than a current value during paper feeding. The control unit estimates an output voltage on a basis of a voltage detected through the application of the currents. When the estimated output voltage falls below a certain limiter voltage, the control unit controls to bring the output voltage to a value calculated through the certain condition. When the estimated output voltage exceeds the certain limiter voltage, the control unit controls to bring the output voltage to the limiter voltage.

A transfer apparatus includes a transfer unit, a first detector, a supplying unit, a second detector, and a controller. The transfer unit transfers a toner image onto an object. The first detector detects humidity. The supplying unit supplies, to the transfer unit, a transfer voltage, a setting voltage in a first case, and a setting current in a second case. The second detector detects a current flowing through the transfer unit upon supply of the setting voltage and a voltage across the transfer unit upon supply of the setting current. The controller controls the supplying unit such that, when transfer is performed in the first case, a transfer voltage derived using the setting voltage and the detected current is supplied, and when transfer is performed in the second case, a transfer voltage derived using the setting current and the detected voltage is supplied to the transfer unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an image reading unit, a fixing unit, a time setting unit, and a control unit. The image reading unit moves a running body having an onboard optical system. The fixing unit heats toner transferred onto the print medium and applies pressure on the heated toner with respect to the print medium to fix the toner. The time setting unit sets an estimated time when use of the image forming apparatus starts. The control unit controls the image reading unit, the fixing unit, and the time setting unit. The control unit, prior to the set estimated start-of-use time by a predetermined period set in advance, activates the image reading unit to detect whether condensation has occurred in the optical system, heats the fixing unit in response to a detection of occurrence of condensation, and stops the heating before the estimated start-of-use time.
