According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body, a transfer unit body, a transfer counter roller, a transfer belt, a side cover, a transfer roller, a shaft end member, and a holding member. The side cover is opened and closed with respect to the apparatus body. The transfer roller is supported by the side cover, moves between an abutting position at which the transfer roller comes into contact with the transfer belt and interposes the transfer belt along with the transfer counter roller and a separate position at which the transfer roller is separated from the transfer belt. The shaft end member is provided at a shaft end of the transfer roller. The holding member is provided in the transfer unit body, holds the shaft end member at the abutting position, and opens the shaft end member at the separate position.

A protection member for attachment to a replacement component before the replacement component is inserted into a body of an apparatus, to protect the replacement component, the replacement component being to be inserted into the body of the apparatus so as to act as a part of the apparatus, the protection member includes: a contact portion configured to come into contact with the body of the apparatus at a stage where a portion of the replacement component on a front side in an insertion direction is inserted into the body of the apparatus while the protection member is attached to the replacement component, in which the protection member is removed at the stage where the portion is inserted into the body of the apparatus, so as to allow further insertion of the replacement component.

A protection member for attachment to a replacement component before the replacement component is inserted into a body of an apparatus, to protect the replacement component, the replacement component being to be inserted into the body of the apparatus so as to act as a part of the apparatus, the protection member includes: a contact portion configured to come into contact with the body of the apparatus at a stage where a portion of the replacement component on a front side in an insertion direction is inserted into the body of the apparatus while the protection member is attached to the replacement component, in which the protection member is removed at the stage where the portion is inserted into the body of the apparatus, so as to allow further insertion of the replacement component.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, a belt unit including a cleaning unit and an opposing roller, and a swinging mechanism. The swinging mechanism includes a swingable member which is provided in a position different from a rotation center of the opposing roller while holding the opposing roller and the cleaning unit without changing a relative positional relationship between the opposing roller and the cleaning unit and which is swingable about a swing axis.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body and a unit detachably mounted to the apparatus body and comprising a unit body, a cam, a first movement member, and a second movement member. The unit includes a first contact portion, an urging portion, and a second contact portion. The second movement member is attachable to the first movement member in a first manner or a second manner. A detection pattern of a detection signal differs between a state in which the second movement member is in contact with the first contact portion and a state in which the second movement member is in contact with the second contact portion, and differs between a state in which the second movement member is attached in the first manner and a state in which the second movement member is attached in the second manner.

An image forming apparatus that has a transfer device that includes an intermediate transfer belt that is tensioned by a plurality of support rollers, a secondary transfer roller that faces one of the support rollers via the intermediate transfer belt, a cam that adjust a pressing force that presses the intermediate transfer belt by the secondary transfer roller, a motor that drives the cam, and a conveyor that conveys a recording medium to a transfer nip formed between the intermediate transfer belt and the secondary transfer roller is provided with a controller that controls an operation of the motor. The controller executes first control of operating the motor with a constant torque and stopping the motor when a rotation angular speed of the motor is less than or equal to a first threshold and second control of operating the motor at a predetermined timing to adjust a transfer nip amount.

There are included a first grip portion provided on a first end side of a belt conveyor device, in a width direction intersecting a rotational direction of the belt, and a second grip portion and an electrical contact portion provided on a second end side of the belt conveyor device. A center of gravity position of the belt conveyor device is provided on a downstream side of a center of the belt conveyor device and a range where the center of gravity position of the belt conveyor device is provided in a range where the contact portion and the first grip portion are provided. The second grip portion is provided on an upstream side of the center of gravity position of the belt conveyor device in an insertion direction of the belt conveyor device.

An image forming apparatus includes a main body, an upper unit, and a moving mechanism. The main body includes an image forming section. The image forming section forms an image on paper. The upper unit is disposed in an upper portion of the main body. The moving mechanism moves the upper unit to a first position and to a second position. The first position of the upper unit is above a position of the image forming section in the upper portion of the main body. The second position of the upper unit is in the upper portion of the main body and is different from the first position.

There are included a first grip portion provided on a first end side of a belt conveyor device, in a width direction intersecting a rotational direction of the belt, and a second grip portion and an electrical contact portion provided on a second end side of the belt conveyor device. A center of gravity position of the belt conveyor device is provided on a downstream side of a center of the belt conveyor device and a range where the center of gravity position of the belt conveyor device is provided in a range where the contact portion and the first grip portion are provided. The second grip portion is provided on an upstream side of the center of gravity position of the belt conveyor device in an insertion direction of the belt conveyor device.

A cleaning apparatus includes an endless belt configured to bear a toner image, a rotary member configured to be wound around by the belt, and configured to rotate integrally with the belt, a bearing configured to rotatably support the rotary member, a cleaning unit configured to come into contact with a surface of the belt and collect an adhering matter adhered onto the surface, an urging member configured to urge the cleaning unit toward the surface of the belt, and a support member configured from a single member and including a first supporting portion, a second supporting portion, and a third supporting portion. The first supporting portion rotatably supports the belt via the bearing and the rotary member. The second supporting portion pivotably supports the cleaning unit. The third supporting portion supports the urging member.
