Holographic characterization of irregular particles
Holographic Video Microscopy analysis of non-spherical particles is disclosed herein. Properties of the particles are determined by application of light scattering theory to holography data. Effective sphere theory is applied to provide information regarding the reflective index of a sphere that includes a target particle. Known particles may be co-dispersed with unknown particles in a medium and the holographic video microscopy is used to determine properties, such as porosity, of the unknown particles.
Automated holographic video microscopy assay
An in-line holographic microscope can be used to analyze a video stream to track individual colloidal particles' three-dimensional motions. The system and method can provide real time nanometer resolution, and simultaneously measure particle sizes and refractive indexes. An assay using the holographic microscope for holographic particle characterization directly detect viruses, antibodies and related targets binding to the surfaces of specifically functionalized micrometer-scale colloidal probe beads. The system detects binding of targets by directly measuring associated changes in the bead's diameter without the need for downstream labeling and analysis.
OPTICALLY VARIABLE SECURITY DEVICES
An optical device is formed by hot stamping a demetallized hologram to an optically variable foil or to a coating of optically variable ink. In another embodiment a hologram is hot stamped to a banknote or document printed with a color-shifting ink.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MONITORING A BUILDING STRUCTURE
A system for monitoring a building structure is described. The system comprises a laser source which emits an infrared radiation and an interferometric arrangement which divides the radiation into an object beam and a reference beam. The object beam irradiates the building structure and is scattered by it, while the reference beam interferes with the scattered object beam so as to create a hologram of the building. The system also comprises a sensor which detects a sequence of holograms and a processing unit which reconstructs the evolution in time of deformations or displacements of the building by numerically processing the sequence of holograms. The systembeing based on digital holographyoffers various advantages compared to known monitoring techniques, for example techniques which make use of seismometers (possibility of remote monitoring, substantial space-time continuity of the monitoring, capacity for detecting a wider range of deformations and displacements).
HOLOGRAPHIC OBSERVATION METHOD AND DEVICE
A holographic observation method includes: casting a light beam generated by driving a semiconductor laser light source with an electric current with an alternating-current component superimposed or a light beam having a predetermined spectral width and predetermined spectral intensity to have predetermined coherency to an observation object; forming a hologram by causing a light beam transmitted through or reflected by the observation object to interfere with a reference light beam; and obtaining information on the observation object by performing image processing on the hologram.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PIXEL SUPER-RESOLUTION OF MULTIPLEXED HOLOGRAPHIC COLOR IMAGES
A method of generating a color image of a sample includes obtaining a plurality of low resolution holographic images of the sample using a color image sensor, the sample illuminated simultaneously by light from three or more distinct colors, wherein the illuminated sample casts sample holograms on the image sensor and wherein the plurality of low resolution holographic images are obtained by relative x, y, and z directional shifts between sample holograms and the image sensor. Pixel super-resolved holograms of the sample are generated at each of the three or more distinct colors. De-multiplexed holograms are generated from the pixel super-resolved holograms. Phase information is retrieved from the de-multiplexed holograms using a phase retrieval algorithm to obtain complex holograms. The complex hologram for the three or more distinct colors is digitally combined and back-propagated to a sample plane to generate the color image.
Optically trapped atom transfer tweezer through hologram and method using the same
An optically trapped atom transfer tweezer includes an optical modulator which modulates incident light and generates a first hologram; a first lens which images the first hologram on an intermediate image plane and generates a first holographic image having any potential shape; a second lens which re-images the first holographic image on an entrance pupil of a third lens; the third lens which re-images a second hologram generated by the re-imaging of the second lens on a plane where an optically trapped atom array exists; a photographing device which captures optically trapped cold atoms from a second holographic image generated on the plane where an optically trapped atom array exists; and a controller which controls the optical modulator to adjust the second holographic image on the basis of the optically trapped atom image captured by the photographing device such that the optically trapped atom array is transferred to any spatial position.
ARRANGEMENT FOR IN-LINE HOLOGRAPHY MICROSCOPY
A measuring arrangement having an illuminating arrangement to emit coherent light; a cuvette defining an inner volume for receiving a fluid possibly comprising microscopic objects of foreign origin, the cuvette being arranged to receive the coherent light and let it exit therefrom through opposite entrance and exit openings, the entrance opening being closed by an entrance window. The possible microscopic objects present in the fluid scatter part of the light, the scattered and non-scattered light interfering to form interference fringes. An image sensor is configured to capture a hologram digital image frame by receiving the light propagated across the cuvette. An exit window is arranged to close the exit opening of the cuvette. The image sensor is mounted in direct contact with the cuvette.

Method of forming a complex image of a sample
A method for obtaining an image of a sample includes illuminating the sample using a light source; acquiring, using an image sensor, a first image of the sample, the image being formed in the detection plane, the first image being representative of an exposure light wave propagating, from the sample, to the image sensor, along a first optical path; modifying an optical refractive index, between the image sensor and the sample; acquiring a second image of the sample, the image being representative of the exposure light wave along a second optical path; and implementing an iterative algorithm that combines the first and second images so as to obtain an image of the sample.
