The present invention provides devices for neck support and correction, for example, pillows, headrests, or cushions, designed to be placed under the head and neck of a person lying in a supine or side-lying position, Such devices are useful for maintaining or improving cervical and/or thoracic spinal curvature and/or alignment and for reducing pain associated with ailments of the neck or cervical vertebrae. Also provided are methods of improving cervical spinal alignment and for treating or ameliorating ailments of the neck or cervical vertebrae.

A pillow relies on a shell containing two types of fill material, one comparatively smaller, granular, and characterized by a comparatively larger spring constant, and another comparatively larger, more chunky in shape, and characterized by a comparatively smaller spring constant. Buckwheat hulls or polymeric granules with concavities or flutes may serve as the smaller granules and chunks of expanded elastomeric polymer may serve as larger granules. Below a threshold level of force (or pressure, which is force per unit area) the larger, softer, second fill material resists flow of the smaller, harder, stiffer fill material. However, upon freefall or else application of greater than threshold pressure, the pillow will conform non-resiliently to the gravity or pressure, and then remain in that shape, even under the pressure of the head and neck of a user.

The present invention relates to head and neck pillows configured to provide proper support and advantageous positions of the head and neck for reducing spinal stress, maximizing air flow via the respiratory pathway and promoting healthy restorative sleep in a user. The head and neck pillow comprises an open head positioning support area, neck support areas when the user is resting in supine position. The invention further discloses a first side and a second side of the head and neck pillow comprising support areas for the side of the head and neck as well as curved transition surfaces for smooth transitioning of the head and neck of the user from supine or prone to side resting positions. In an embodiment, the invention discloses a head and neck pillow with an open head positioning area, a neck support area and a handle positioned adjacent to the open head positioning area.

Disclosed is a pillow having a head portion having a head-shaped cavity sized in approximate proportions to receive a human head. The head portion has an inner surface, an outer surface, an open face, a left side, a left-side ear hole, a right side, a right-side ear hole, and an open bottom. There are a plurality of pads inside the head-shaped cavity that are selectively removable from the head-shaped cavity to accommodate a variety of head sizes and a washable liner covering the plurality of pads that is selectively removable from the pillow to accommodate laundering. The pillow has a neck portion extending from the open bottom and a circumferential pad on the outer surface of the head portion that is selectively removable to increase or decrease the size of the head portion.

A spooning pillow system and a method of using the same is provided. The spooning pillow system and method embodies a spooning pillow having an arm cavity adapted for a rearward individual in a spooning configuration may comfortably position their underlying arm therein. The spooning pillow system may also include a spooning pillowcase with connector flaps interconnecting the spooning pillowcase with auxiliary pillowcases encasing convention pillows so that the encased conventional pillows are movably attached to the spooning pillowcase. Thereby the encased convention pillows may be moved between an uncovered condition and a covered condition covering the arm cavity so that the spooning individuals can rest their heads on the conventional pillows.

An adjustable pillow device and a pillow adjusting method are disclosed, the adjustable pillow device comprising: a headrest body (1), the height of a region thereof being self-adjustable according to the posture of a sleeper; an inflation/deflation mechanism (2) connected to the headrest body (1) for adjusting the height of a region of the headrest body (1); a sensor (3) for collecting information about the sleeper and providing feedback; a central information processor (4) connected to the sensor (3) and the control end of the inflation/deflation mechanism (2) respectively for receiving information from the sensor (3) and sending an adjustment direction to the control end of the inflation/deflation mechanism (2) according to the sleeping posture information and the body data figure of the sleeper. The adjustable pillow device and method ensure that a sleeper has the most natural and physiologic sleeping posture, and enable automatic adjustment of the head and neck of the sleeper in different sleeping postures to allow the head to be in a proper position relative to the neck, thus providing the sleeper with deeper and longer sleep, improving sleep quality, and meeting the needs of the public.

Certain embodiments herein relate to a neck pillow comprising a lower tier and an upper tier. In various embodiments, the lower tier is configured for a user to lay on when sleeping on his or her back, and the upper tier is configured for the user to lay on when sleeping on his or her side. The lower tier and the upper tier may be connected via a middle section. The bottom of the lower tier and the upper tier may comprise a flat bottom that is disposed flat against the surface a user is sleeping on.

A pillow device providing comfort, support, and correct spinal alignment when lying in either the supine position or on one's side. The pillow comprises a bottom pillow, a top pillow, and side supports. Each side support is attached to both the bottom pillow and top pillow. The bottom pillow is arranged between the side supports and the top pillow is mounted above the bottom pillow and the side supports. The bottom pillow and top pillow each have a cavity configured to receive a user's head and a neck portion configured to support a user's neck when lying in the supine position. A memory foam pillow with a shoulder recess and a riser for height adjustment accommodates the sleeping habits of people who prefer to sleep on their sides. The memory foam pillow includes a height-adjustable pillow and a shoulder recess. The height-adjustable pillow can be raised or lowered with the aid of a vertical riser to optimally position the user's head. The shoulder recess fits over the shoulder of the user and prevents the shoulder from compressing height-adjustable pillow. The height-adjustable pillow includes a headrest, a sound-permeable cushion, and a speaker recess. The vertical riser is connected onto a connecting side of the headrest. The user's head rests on a contact side of the headrest, opposite the connecting side. The sound-permeable cushion is mounted into the speaker recess and relieves pressure on the user's ear.
