The web browser application retrieves a worklist and automatically determines an image study from the worklist to be cached. The web browser application retrieves at least one medical image included in the image study. The web browser application creates a web database for storing the at least one medical image within the browser application. When a user selects a medical image for display within the web browser, the web browser application determines whether the medical image is stored in the web database. When the medical image is stored in the web database, the web browser application retrieves the medical image from the web database. When the medical image is not stored in the web database, the web browser application retrieves the medical image from a remote image repository.

A mapping system that stores user profile data and geographic information system (GIS) data. The mapping system identifies topics of interest to the user, identifies component maps that are relevant to the topics of interest, and generates composite maps of geographic locations having unique combinations of attributes relevant to the topics of interest. The boundaries of the geographic locations may be adjusted to conform to subnational boundaries. The composite maps provide functionality for users to identify locations of interest. The mapping system may receive third-party geographic data and organize it into a hierarchical taxonomy. The mapping system may then provide a graphical user interface to identify items of interest to the user, for example in locations of interest to the user. The third-party geographic data may further include transportation and accommodations information and the mapping system may generate an itinerary for travelling to the locations or items of interest.

An image segment that includes a representation of the encompassed portion of the displayed information is generated and processed to determine an object represented in the portion of the displayed information. Additional images with visually similar representations of objects are then determined and presented to the user.
