A pole type member support device has a receptacle having an opening formed in a top section thereof. The receptacle is conical in shaped and tapered so that the top section of the receptacle is smaller than a bottom section of the receptacle. A tubular cut-out is formed within the receptacle and extends down from the opening. The tubular cutout is tapered so that the top section of the tubular cut-out is larger than a bottom section of the tubular cut-out. A plurality of ring members is provided wherein each ring member has an opening formed through a central area thereof, each opening having a diameter approximately equal to a diameter of a pole-type member, each of the plurality of ring members configured to be inserted and held within the tubular cut-out to support a pole-type member in an upright position within the tubular cut-out.

The present invention generally relates to a live plant or tree, such as, a Christmas tree that is being held in water, inside a stand, and also has a low water indicator. The present invention also provides a Christmas tree stand that has a low water indicator, and has an independent spring compression system that is self-adjusting and serves to position the tree securely and up-right. The low water indicator system is a float device that will rise and fall with the water level, mainly including a float, plunger, activation wire, power source, and buzzer that is built or attached to the tree stand. As the water level drops the float-plunger system activates an electrical connection and causes an alarm to be activated. Upon the activation of the alarm the tree stand will require water, and once water is added, the alarm will automatically deactivate.

A tree stand is described including a fluid reservoir of a tree retaining member including tree gripping means. The gripping means comprises projections arranged on an interior surface of the tree retaining member and extending in a radial fashion, inwardly from the interior surface of the tree retaining member. The projections run substantially axially within the tree retaining member and include a sharp or pointed portion to at least partially penetrate the trunk of a tree inserted into the tree retaining member. The tree retaining member is configured to hold a tree inserted therein by resisting lifting of a tree inserted therein relative to the tree stand, without using moveable mechanical means comprising screws or bolts. The tree retaining member is connected to a base. The tree stand also includes strengthening means configured between the fluid reservoir and the tree retaining member. The strengthening means comprises hollow ribs.
