METHOD AND DEVICE FOR NON-CONTACT DETECTION OF THIN MEDIUM
A method and device for non-contact detection of a thin medium (5) is disclosed. The device comprises a light source (1), an optical splitter (2), a reference plane (3), a linearly arrayed photoelectric detector (6), a signal processing module (4) and the thin medium (5). The method involves the following steps: acquiring time for targeted light which is emitted by the light source (1) and reflected by the thin medium (5) to the linearly arrayed photoelectric detector (6), and acquiring time for reference light which is emitted by the light source (1) and reflected by the reference plane (3) to the linearly arrayed photoelectric detector (6); according to the acquired time that the targeted light and the reference light arrive at the linearly arrayed photoelectric detector (6), computing a first optical path and a second optical path corresponding to the targeted light and the reference light respectively, and acquiring quantity of bright fringes and dark fringes of interference fringes according to a predetermined computing manner by the signal processing module (4); conducting difference comparison between the quantity of the bright fringes and dark fringes of the interference fringes and the quantity of the bright fringes and dark fringes of standard interference fringes according to the predetermined manner, and if the value of the comparison result is larger than the predetermined threshold value, determining that the foreign matters are positioned on the thin medium (5). The detection method and device solves the technical problems that precision is low and measuring wavelength is long caused by an existing mechanical thickness measuring device, an infrared detector and an ultrasonic detector used to detect the foreign substance on the surface of the thin medium.
HYBRID DOCUMENT WITH VARIABLE STATE
A hybrid document includes a document having visible markings, one or more light-controlling elements embedded in or on the document, and a controller including a circuit having a non-volatile memory. The controller is embedded in or on the document and electrically connected to the one or more light-controlling elements for controlling the one or more light-controlling elements. A power input connection is electrically connected to any one or all of the controller, the circuit, the memory, or the one or more light-emitting elements. The memory stores a state and the circuit causes the one or more light-controlling elements to indicate the state. A hybrid document validation machine is adapted to accept one or more of the hybrid documents, change the state of the hybrid documents, and optionally display the state on a display.
Security device and method of manufacture
A security device is presented, including: an array of focusing elements, each focusing element being adapted to focus light in at least two orthogonal directions, the focusing elements being arranged on a regular two-dimensional grid; and an array of elongate image elements overlapping the array of focusing elements, configured such that each focusing element can direct light from any one of a respective set of at least two elongate image elements to the viewer, in dependence on the viewing angle. In a first region of the security device, the elongate image elements extend along a first direction, and in a second region of the security device, the elongate image elements extend along a second direction which is different to the first direction.

Method for providing measurement data from a device for processing value documents and value document processing device
A method for making available measuring data of a value-document processing apparatus for processing value documents includes feeding individual value documents in real time, measuring data for the value documents are captured by means of a sensor device and stored in an intermediate memory, such that feeding of individual value documents and/or the capturing of measuring data the current utilization of the intermediate memory is compared to a predetermined limit utilization, dependent on the comparison. The feeding of value documents is interrupted and measuring data from the intermediate memory are permanently stored in a permanent memory, and during the permanent storing and/or after the permanent storing of the measuring data in the permanent memory the intermediate memory is released again. After release of the intermediate memory the feeding of individual value documents and capturing and storing of measuring data for the fed value documents in the intermediate memory is restarted.

The topographic pattern image of the microstructure of the paper-based artifacts is used for authentication of the paper-based artifacts. The device includes an illumination channel comprising a light source and a light director configured to bend the light beam produced by the light source. The device also includes an imaging channel comprising at least one lens configured to magnify the topographic pattern created by the light beam and an image capturing mechanism to capture the topographic pattern.
AUTHENTICATION OF PRINTED DOCUMENTS
In one example of the disclosure, it is determined, based upon a scan of an overt image included within a printed document, that the image includes a subset area with an expected marking agent response. It is determined, based upon the scan, that a feature of the subset area meets an expected quality threshold. It is determined that a data payload represented by features of the subset area matches expected data for the image. A first measurement of the subset area is made, and it is determined that the image was produced by a printing device based upon a comparison of the first measurement to a second measurement of a sample image printed by the device. Authenticity of the printed document is determined based upon the expected marking agent response, the expected quality threshold, the expected data, and the comparison of measurements.
