Moveable platen in document handling systems for an automated teller machine

Systems and methods of the invention relate to reducing a number of jams that can occur in an automated teller machine with the employment of a moveable platen that increases a width of a channel for documents. A document analysis area can receive a document via a first transport path, wherein the document analysis area can include a channel in which the document travels to enable at least one scan component to capture an image of the document. The channel is created by one or more platen. The one or more platen can be movable to increase the width of the channel so as to allow documents to pass through the document analysis area without causing a jam or error for the automated teller machine.

MEDIUM TRANSACTION DEVICE

A medium transaction device includes: a conveyance section for a medium; a customer interface attachment point; a classification section attachment point; a storage section attachment point; and a controller that controls transaction processing of the medium with the user. At least one of the customer interface attachment point, the classification section attachment point, or the storage section attachment point is configured to allow attachment of one type of the customer interface, the classification section, or the storage section from plural mutually different respective functional types thereof. The controller switches the transaction processing executable with the user according to the type of the customer interface, the classification section, or the storage section that is attached to the customer interface attachment point, the classification section attachment point, or the storage section attachment point.

HYBRID BANKNOTE WITH ELECTRONIC INDICIA

A hybrid currency banknote includes a banknote having visible markings. One or more light-controlling elements and a controller are embedded in or on the banknote. The controller is electrically connected to the one or more light-controlling elements to control the one or more light-controlling elements. A power input connection is electrically connected to the controller, or one or more light-controlling elements, or both. A power source can be connected to the power input connection, for example a piezoelectric or photovoltaic power source. In response to applied power, the controller causes the one or more light-controlling elements to emit light. A value can be stored in a memory in the controller and displayed by the light-controlling elements. The value can be assigned or varied by a hybrid currency teller machine.

Automated teller machine (“ATM”) currency stamper

Apparatus and methods for an automated teller machine (“ATM”) currency stamper are provided. The currency stamper may be configured to mark currency retracted by the ATM. The mark may include one or more attributes of the currency. The mark may include transaction information associated with a dispensing and/or retraction of the currency. Marked currency may be stored in the ATM. Marked currency may be scanned. A scanning of marked currency may read the attributes of the currency and the transaction information included in the mark. The scanning of the marked currency may erase the mark. A value of the marked currency may be calculated. The value may be determined based on the currency attributes and transaction information included in the mark applied to the currency.

Automatic teller machine and banknote processing method

An automatic teller machine includes a banknote conveyance channel, a banknote recycling channel, and a banknote circulation channel. The banknote conveyance channel includes an annular channel, a first branch channel, a second branch channel, a third branch channel, a fourth branch channel, and a fifth branch channel. A banknote-in mechanism communicates with the annular channel via the first branch channel. A temporary storage mechanism communicates with the annular channel via the second branch channel. A banknote-out mechanism communicates with the annular channel via the third branch channel. Two ends of an identification mechanism communicate with the annular channel via the fourth branch channel and the fifth branch channel, respectively. A recycling box communicates with the banknote conveyance channel via the banknote recycling channel. A circulation box communicates with the banknote circulation channel via the banknote circulation channel.

Presently disclosed embodiments are directed to systems and methods for bundling smaller stacks of bank notes into larger sized bundles that are efficient for transportation. The system may include an in-line bundler disposed along pockets of a currency processor for receiving stacks of bank notes directly from the pocket. That way, the smaller stacks of bank notes do not have to be removed from the currency processor and transported to a separate bundler machine. Instead, the currency processor features a desired number of bundler machines disposed in-line with the corresponding pockets where the bank notes are initially received and stacked. This arrangement may enable efficient stacking and bundling of bank notes sorted via the currency processor.
