ELECTRONIC PUSH-BUTTON CONTRABASS TRAINER
20170092147 · 2017-03-30 ·

A stringless portable electronic training device for a stringed instrument, such as a contrabass, has the shape of a fingerboard with just enough neck to provide realistic left hand position, and just enough body to contain actuators corresponding with strings, electronics, a speaker, and an output jack. On the fingerboard are rows of push buttons corresponding with the location of the notes. The push buttons are held down to select notes which are sounded by actuators at a lower end of the fingerboard. Actuating without the pressing of a button produces the note of the open string. The actuators may include a set of flippers that replicate the plucking of strings and a set of elongated buttons that sustain a bowed sound as they are pressed down. The sound is produced electronically through a built-in speaker and/or output jack.

System and method for rendering music

A system and method for rendering music is provided. The method includes: receiving a request for electronic content; parsing the electronic content to determine a music notation element; translating the music notation; creating a music notation object based on the translation; and rendering the music notation object via a browser application. The system includes: a connection module configured to receive a request for electronic content; a parser configured to parse the electronic content to determine a music notation element; an object module configured to translate the music notation and create a music notation object based on the translation; and a rendering module configured to render the music notation object to be displayed by a browser application.

A musical instrument training device has a sensor array cooperating with a remote device and an electronic controller to assist as a guide for finger placement on the strings of the instrument, and to provide feedback on proper finger use and placement, the sensor being removably mountable on an instrument neck.

Method of presenting a piece of music to a user of an electronic device
09601029 · 2017-03-21 · ·

A method of presenting music to a user of an electronic device comprises the step of providing score data representing the musical score of the piece of music in a graphical representation, audio data representing a recording of the piece of music, and music data representing one or more parts of parts of the piece of music in a digital format such as MIDI or MusicXML. The music data representing a part of the music that has been selected by the user is transformed into part sound signals using a sound generator. The part sound signals and audio sound signals are merged so as to obtain a merged sound signal in which the piece of music as represented by the music data file and by the audio data file are synchronized. Finally, and simultaneously, the sound of the piece of music using the merged sound signal is played audibly, the musical score is displayed on a display, and a sub-portion of the musical score corresponding to a passage of the piece of music which is presently audible is highlighted on the display.

Systems and methods for quantifying a sound into dynamic pitch-based graphs

A system and method that quantifies a sound into dynamic pitch-based graphs that correlate to the pitch frequencies of the sound. The system records a sound, such as musical notes. A pitch detection algorithm identifies and quantifies the pitch frequencies of the notes. The algorithm analyzes the pitch frequencies, and graphically displays the pitch frequency and notes in real time as fluctuating circles, rectangular bars, and lines that represent variances in pitch. The algorithm comprises a modified Type 2 Normalized Square Difference Function that transforms the musical notes into the pitch frequencies. The Type 2 Normalized Square Difference Function analyzes the peaks of the pitch frequency to arrive at a precise pitch frequency, such as 440 Hertz. A Lagrangian interpolation enables comparative analysis and teaching of the pitches and notes. The algorithm also performs transformations and heuristic comparisons to generate the real time graphical representation of the pitch frequency.

MUSICAL NOTATION, SYSTEM, AND METHODS
20170018202 · 2017-01-19 ·

In one aspect, provided herein is a device for notating a musical composition. The device, in various implementations, is structured so as to be less laborious to notate, easier to read, and more simple to employ in notating, reading, and/or playing the music of a given composition to be composed and/or played. Accordingly, in its most basic form, the device herein disclosed includes a template, upon which template one or more symbols may be notated, where such notation is configured in a manner that more closely relates the note to be played with the mechanical action needed to be performed so as to play that note, such as on an instrument to be or being played.

Universal musical instrument trainer

A universal musical instrument trainer is disclosed that indicates a correct musical note and time to play. The trainer has a first array of (LEDs coupled in series. A housing has a receptacle channel configured to mechanically coupled to the first array of LEDs. A controller assigns, to each one of the first plurality of LEDs, a musical note selected from a plurality of musical notes. The controller generates, at one or more predetermined frequencies, one or more pulse signals that includes information corresponding to a duration and a frequency of each pulse of light to be displayed in one or more of the first plurality of LEDs.

ADAPTIVE COMPUTERIZED MUSIC TEACHING SYSTEM AND METHOD

Aspects of embodiments pertain to a method for determining an Input/Output (I/O) device configuration for a music teaching system. The method may comprise receiving a plurality of I/O device configurations of a music teaching system; receiving, for a given I/O device of the music teaching system, an initial I/O device configuration; and determining an updated I/O device configuration for the given I/O Device, based on the initial I/O device configuration of the given I/O Device and at least one of the plurality of received I/O device configurations. The determining is performed such that the updated I/O device configuration has improved device performance compared to the initial I/O device configuration.

Method for Generating and Displaying Proportional, Textless Musical Instrument Layouts for Educational Purposes
20250349225 · 2025-11-13 ·

The present invention provides a computer-implemented method for creating a musical educational aid. The method includes selecting a physical musical instrument and accessing a set of dimensions associated with the selected musical instrument. Based on these dimensions, a textless and proportionally accurate representation layout of the selected musical instrument is generated. The method further includes selecting at least one musical scale or chord and placing a subset of musical note labels on the generated layout. These labels correspond to positions for finger placement for each of the notes in the selected musical scale or chord. This invention facilitates the visual learning of musical instruments by providing clear and precise visual representations without the need for textual explanations.
