Systems and methods for computerized interactive skill training

The present invention is directed to interactive training, and in particular, to methods and systems for computerized interactive skill training. An example embodiment provides a method and system for providing skill training using a computerized system. The computerized system receives a selection of a first training subject. Several related training components can be invoked, such as reading, watching, performing, and/or reviewing components. In addition, a scored challenge session is provided, wherein a training challenge is provided to a user via a terminal, optionally in video form.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TEACHING USERS HOW TO READ VIA INTERACTIVE GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACES

The computer system displays a user interface that represents text information by an improved method of phonics-based approach for teaching reading, especially for those with dyslexia or other neurological disorders. The interface enlarges a line of text to be read by a user and places the cursor/pointer under the first word in the line of text in a direction of reading on the computer screen. The user interacts with the interface by a cursor/pointer. The system calculates the cursor/pointer position and highlights font and background of the traversed part of the text line/element under which the cursor is located. The elements can be letters, syllables and words. In the voiceover mode, the pointer/cursor moves automatically and the user follows the cursor/pointer at the speed suggested by the system and the system voices the word/syllable being read. In the non-voiceover mode, the user drags the cursor along the text line.

SPEECH PROCESSING TECHNIQUES

Techniques for an interactive turn-based reading experience are described. A system may take turns reading content, such as a book, with a user. The system may process audio data representing a user reading a portion of the content, determine reading evaluation data, and determine how to proceed for the next turn based on the reading evaluation data. For example, based on the reading evaluation data, the system may read a portion of the content by outputting synthesized speech representing the content, may ask the user re-read a portion of the content, or may ask the user to read a different, smaller portion of the content.

A machine causes a touch-sensitive screen to present a graphical user interface that depicts a slider control aligned with a word that includes a first alphabetic letter and a second alphabetic letter. A first zone of the slider control corresponds to the first alphabetic letter, and a second zone of the slider control corresponds to the second alphabetic letter. The machine detects a touch-and-drag input that begins within the first zone and enters the second zone. In response to the touch-and-drag input beginning within the first zone, the machine presents a first phoneme that corresponds to the first alphabetic letter, and the presenting of the first phoneme may include audio playback of the first phoneme. In response to the touch-and-drag input entering the second zone, the machine presents a second phoneme that corresponds to the second alphabetic letter, which may include audio playback of the second phoneme.

Interactive Reading Assistant

A method includes, while displaying a first set of text content via a display device, determining an engagement value that characterizes a level of user engagement with respect to the first set of text content. The method includes, in accordance with a determination that the engagement value satisfies a threshold, replacing the first set of text content with a second set of text content via the display device. The first set of text content is different from the second set of text content. The method includes in accordance with a determination that the engagement value does not satisfy the threshold, maintaining display of the first set of text content via the display device.

Letter manipulative identification board

A set of letter manipulatives and a board on which said letter manipulatives may be placed, where the board comprises an identification module that can identify the letter manipulatives placed on the board and communicate the identification to a computing device.

Interactive multisensory learning process and tutorial device

Disclosed is a computer-based multisensory tutorial that collects vocal data and tactile input data from a user related to a target presented by a GUI, the target comprising a phoneme, grapheme, letter, word; determines if the collected data exceeds or fails to meet a threshold value associated with the target; and provides a correction prompt visible or audible to a user if the input does not meet the threshold. A typical user of the tutorial may be a student (child or adult) in an educational setting, but use is not intended to be limited thereto. The multisensory tutorial may be configured for a plurality of languages. A multisensory tutorial configured device comprises one or more tutorial software modules, a GUI lesson screen, and a plurality of integrated lessons based on an Ortin-Gillingham plus program (for example one chosen between lessons 20 and 50), but is not limited thereto.

Symbol Manipulation Educational System and Method

A system for teaching is disclosed, comprising a symbol identification dock and a plurality of symbol manipulatives, a computing device connected to the symbol identification dock, and a database, wherein the database comprises lexical data and an adaptive learning curriculum.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ASSISTING READING AND LEARNING BY FOCUSING ATTENTION

The invention relates to a method to assist with reading and learning to read, comprising the steps implemented by a digital system to: display a succession (80) of adjacent graphemic entities on a screen (11), the displayed graphemic entities (811, 812, 813, 814) being displayed with alteration so as to enable the detection of their display by a user but so as to prevent their identification by the user; detect the pointing (7) by the user of one of the graphemic entities displayed with alteration; display simultaneously, on the screen, the pointed graphemic entity (802) without alteration, so as to enable its identification by the user, and the adjacent graphemic entities of the pointed graphemic entity (811,813), and to acoustically render, to the user, a phonemic entity (92) associated with the pointed graphemic entity (802).
