SET OF BOOKS FOR USE IN A CLASSROOM HAVING STUDENTS READING AT DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS AND RELATED TEACHING METHOD
A set of books for use in a classroom having students reading at different grade levels. The set of books includes an original text novel edition printed in physical book form having a cover, numbered chapters and numbered pages each having a page layout and a first modified text version of the original text novel edition written at a first lower grade level reading range than the original text novel edition. The original and modified text editions are printed in physical book form having substantially the same size, cover, page layout and page numbering. The set of books can be marked with a subtle indicator enabling the teacher to identify the reading level of each book without providing noticeable indication of reading level to students in the class. A method of teaching language arts using the set books is also disclosed.
Peripheral device identification system and method
A system and method for dynamically identifying an accessory or other peripheral device to be wirelessly paired with a tablet computer or other primary device, wherein the accessory comprises a display screen that displays a quick response (QR) code when the accessory is not paired, and after the QR code is scanned by the tablet computer, which is then wirelessly paired with the accessory, the QR code is replaced on the display screen with an image associated with the user, such as a picture of the user, the users name, or other means of associating the accessory with the user.
Assisting learners based on analytics of in-session cognition
An approach is provided that detect a section of a document that is currently being read by a user on a display device as well as the user's current emotional state. In response to determining, based on the detected current emotional state, that reading assistance would be helpful to the user, the approach identifies terminology within the section of the document that is currently being read by the user, retrieves assistive texts related to the identified terminology, and provides the assistive texts to the user at the display screen.
System and Method for Evaluating Reading Comprehension
A method for evaluating reading comprehension is provided. The method includes the steps of providing at least one printed passage of text; providing a test subject, the test subject wearing a device for measuring brain frontal lobe usage; requiring the test subject to read the printed passage; providing a question based on the printed passage for the test subject to answer; and determining whether the device measures brain frontal lobe usage. A system for performing the method is also provided.
Finger reading method and device based on visual gestures
A finger reading method and device based on visual gestures. A user makes a circle on a required finger reading region on a book by using a finger; a camera captures the circle making action of the finger, and an image processing module acquires the position a fingertip according to a profile analysis algorithm, acquires the endpoints of the track edge in upper, lower, left and right directions, and fits a rectangle according to the upper, lower, left and right end points in order to identify content such as characters or graphs of rectangular region content. A voice synthesis technology is performed. Voice information is fed to the user to realize a finger reading functions. The device can be worn on the head of the user, and includes camera and bone conduction earphones arranged on both sides thereof.
DEVICE AND PROGRAM FOR PERFORMING NEW TRAINING
This device is provided with a means for flash displaying a reversed text or image, an inverted text or image, or an inverted and reversed text or image in flash mode. In one embodiment, this device is furthermore provided with a means for causing a user to undergo book-reading training. In one embodiment, the means for causing a user to undergo book-reading training may include a means for displaying a page of a book, a means for displaying a marker on the page of the book, and a means for causing the display position of the marker to change at a prescribed time interval.

Virtual reading companion technology to support the acquisition of reading fluency
Systems and methods of improving reading fluency by presenting a virtual reading partner that takes turns reading aloud with a reader, are presented. First audio data comprising speech corresponding to the reader reading aloud from a first portion of a written transcript is received. The first audio data is processed to identify spoken words from the speech. The reader's speaking of the words in the first portion of the written transcript are compared to correct speaking of words in the first portion of the written transcript. A reading fluency of the reader is assessed. Second audio data comprising a pre-recorded narration of a second portion of the written transcript or automatically generated text to speech of the second portion is generated. The virtual reading partner is presented to the reader and takes turns reading aloud with the reader until the end of the written transcript has been reached.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DISPLAYING VOICE-ANIMATED MULTIMEDIA CONTENT
A system and methods for displaying voice-animated multimedia content through a story. A computer-implemented method for animating multimedia content includes creating a customized story based on input from a user, the input determining one or more words and one or more types of multimedia content for the story; synchronizing the one or more types of multimedia content to match the one or more words of the story; displaying the words of the story to a user via a computing device; determining whether the words of the story were correctly vocalized in the correct order by the user; playing the multimedia content through a display and an audio output on the computing device in response to one or more correctly vocalized words in the story by the user; and analyzing the user's reading and pronunciation of the words in the story.
