A percussion instrument includes: a cylindrical shell portion having an open upper surface side; and a drumhead stretched to be installed on the upper surface side of the shell portion, wherein the drumhead includes: a membrane formed of a membranous material, having a struck head portion configured as a striking face to be struck by a performer and an outer periphery located on an outer circumferential side of the struck head portion; and an annular frame formed of a resin material and having the outer periphery of the membrane fixed thereto, and the drumhead is integrally formed by the membrane and the frame by injection molding.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CAPTURING AND INTERPRETING AUDIO
20200111468 · 2020-04-09 ·

A device is provided for capturing vibrations produced by an object such as a musical instrument such as a cymbal of a drum kit. The device comprises a detectable element, such as a ferromagnetic element, such as a metal shim and a sensor spaced apart from and located relative to the musical instrument. The detectable element is located between the sensor and the musical instrument. When the musical instrument vibrates, the sensor remains stationary and the detectable element is vibrated relative to the sensor by the musical instrument.

Percussion instrument with a plurality of sound zones

A percussion instrument with a plurality of sound zones comprising a main body defining an inner space containing a volume of air, the main body including an upper surface and a lower surface that are joined along their perimeters by a side wall, the upper surface including a sound hole and functioning as a soundboard, and an inner bracing attached directly to an inner face of the soundboard, the inner bracing configured to define a plurality of sound zones across the soundboard, each sound zone having a specific tonal quality related to the surface area comprising the sound zone.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING CONTACTLESS SENSING OF PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS
20200105236 · 2020-04-02 · ·

Trigger devices, systems, and methods for sensing a strike on a vibratory membrane. A trigger device includes an optical sensor positioned a distance from the vibratory membrane and a processing device. The optical sensor includes an emitter that emits modulated light towards the vibratory membrane and a receiver that receives the modulated light that has reflected off the vibratory membrane and generates an electrical signal corresponding to the received modulated light. The electrical signal includes a peak corresponding to a detected strike on the vibratory membrane. The processing device isolates the peak from the electrical signal and generates one or more of a signal and data corresponding to the electrical signal.

Miniature interactive lighted electronic drum kit
