Systems and methods for capturing and interpreting audio

A device is provided as part of a system, the device being for capturing vibrations produced by an object such as a musical instrument. Via a fixation element, the device is fixed to a drum. The device has a sensor spaced apart from a surface of the drum, located relative to the drum, and a magnet adjacent the sensor. The fixation element transmits vibrations from its fixation point on the drum to the magnet. Vibrations from the surface of the drum and from the magnet are transmitted to the sensor. A method may further be provided for interpreting an audio input, such as the output of the sensors within the system, the method comprising identifying an audio event or grouping of audio events within audio data, generating a model of the audio event that includes a representation of a timbre characteristic, and comparing that representation to expected representations.

Systems, methods, and devices for providing interactive striking objects (e.g., drumsticks) and performing actions in response to striking motions of the striking objects are disclosed. In some embodiments, the systems and methods provide an interactive drumstick, which includes a lighting display located at a tip portion of the interactive drumstick, a motion detector contained at least partially within the drumstick, a processor and memory contained at least partially within the drumstick, and an interactive system stored within the memory of the drumstick. The interactive system includes a striking motion module that determines striking motions of the drumstick with respect to a virtual percussion instrument based on accessing information measured by the motion detector, and a display module that causes the lighting display to present a certain type of illumination based on the striking motions determined by the striking motion module.

Synthesizer with cymbal actuator

An apparatus for making music includes a cymbal, an acoustic transducer, a signal-processing system that receives a first signal from the acoustic transducer and that generates a second signal based on a property of the first signal, and a classifier that determines a particular manner in which the cymbal was struck based on the second signal, and provides an output trigger signal for triggering production of a sound that consistent with the particular manner.

The present invention relates to percussion instruments. In particular, it relates to a signal processor for detecting characteristics of vibration of a percussion pad due to a particular strike on the pad. It provides a musician more opportunity for creativity in the sound a listener a percussion instrument can hear. It provides a signal processor for a percussion instrument. The signal processor comprises a singular input signal acquiring means to acquire a singular input signal corresponding to a physical vibration of a percussion surface over time, a signal analyser to analyse the input signal for a characteristic of a strike on the surface which caused the vibration, and a command signal providing means to provide a command signal according to the characteristic.

DRUMSTICK CONTROLLER

A percussion device includes a drumstick assembly and a sleeve. The drumstick assembly includes a drumstick having a base and a tip end, and a drumstick tip secured to the tip end of the drumstick, the drumstick tip including a sensor. The sleeve is disposed about at least a portion of the drumstick including the base thereof, and includes at least one control button, a communication element, and a processor in communication with the at least one control button, the drumstick tip and the communication element. The processor is configured to receive a signal from the drumstick tip and to generate output to the communication element. The output so generated includes a signal that specifies a sound file selected by operation of the at least one control button.

An electronic percussion instrument has a body with a hitting surface that a player can hit. Piezoelectric elements are mounted on respective mounting surfaces Sa formed in the body and are configured to convert vibration generated by a hit on the hitting surface to an electrical signal. The signals have higher output characteristics in vibration in a direction perpendicular to the mounting surfaces than in vibration in a direction parallel to the mounting surfaces. The electronic percussion instrument outputs the electrical signal generated by the piezoelectric elements. The mounting surfaces are inclined from a horizontal plane to a vertical direction toward a center of the body. The piezoelectric elements are mounted on a concentric circle at regular intervals about a central axis of the body.
