Related tape head apparatuses for recording or reproducing multi-track tapes are also provided.
Methods of forming magnetic devices with variable overcoats
Methods that include depositing a first layer over the entire surface of a structure, the structure having a magnetic reader and a magnetic writer, wherein the magnetic reader and the magnetic writer are positioned adjacent to each other on a substrate and the magnetic writer includes a near field transducer (NFT); depositing a second layer over the entire surface of the first layer; depositing a photoresist material layer over the entire surface of the second layer, the photoresist material layer having a bottom surface in contact with the second layer and an opposing top surface; exposing the photoresist material layer to radiation through the bottom surface of the photoresist material layer via the NFT to form a first exposed region; and exposing the photoresist material layer to radiation through the top surface of the photoresist material layer to form a second exposed region.
Suspension assembly with lift tab for disk drive, disk drive with the same
According to one embodiment, a suspension assembly includes a support plate and a lift tab extending in a first direction. The lift tab has an arc-shaped cross section, and includes an arc-shaped outer circumferential surface, an arc-shaped inner circumferential surface, a first upper end surface located between one arc ends of the outer and inner circumferential surfaces, and a second upper end surface located between other arc ends of the outer and inner circumferential surfaces of the inner circumferential surface, and a first angle made between the outer circumferential surface and the first upper end surface is less than a second angle made between the inner circumferential surface and the first upper end surface.
Magnetic head, hard disk device, and method for transferring two-dimensional atomic crystal layer to head slider of magnetic head
A magnetic head includes a head slider. The head slider includes a contact surface corresponding to a disk body, and the contact surface is a flat surface. The contact surface is coated with at least one smooth atomic-scale coating formed by a two-dimensional atomic crystal material. The head slider atomically contacts with the disk body.
ABS design with soft bumper pads (SBP) for mitigating media damage and thermal erasure in hard disk drives (HDD)
A slider design for a hard disk drive (HDD) features an air-bearing surface (ABS) topography with soft bumper pads (SBP) formed proximally to corners of the leading edge and the trailing edge. The bumper pads are formed by a process that combines the use of a first photomask for subtractive etching of the ABS to form pedestals, followed by additive depositions onto the pedestals using a second lift-off photomask. The additive process deposits sequences of Si layers and diamond-like carbon (DLC) layers to produce a soft bumper pad that is energy absorbing and heat conducting, thereby protecting the recording media from surface damage and thermal erasures.
MAGNETIC DEVICES WITH VARIABLE OVERCOATS
A magnetic device including: a magnetic reader; a magnetic writer; and a variable overcoat, the variable overcoat positioned over at least the magnetic reader and writer, the variable overcoat having an overcoat layer, the overcoat layer having a substantially constant thickness and material; and at least one disparate overcoat portion, the disparate overcoat portion having a different thickness, a different material, or both, than the overcoat layer.
Fabrication of a tape head with a monobloc closure
A tape head including a body with a tape-bearing surface configured to contact a magnetic tape, at least one transducer that is a read or write element, configured so the tape head may read from or write to the tape, in operation; and a monobloc closure with a structured cross-sectional profile, so as to exhibit: contact part, fixed on a side of the body which adjoins the tape-bearing surface at an edge thereof, the contact part having a top surface level with the tape-bearing surface; and connecting part integral with the contact part, the connecting part having a top surface recessed from the contact part's top surface, perpendicularly to a contact plane defined by the tape-bearing surface, so the connecting part's top surface does not contact the tape, in operation; and a broken line of mechanical weakness that extends at an end of the top surface of the connecting part.
Tape head with narrow skiving edges fitted to transducers
A tape head includes a body, which includes a transducer. The transducer may be a read or write element, respectively configured so as for the tape head to read from or write to a tape, in operation. The body exhibits a tape-bearing surface, which is typically configured to face and interact with the tape, in operation. The tape head further includes a closure. The closure is fixed on a leading side or a trailing side of the body and includes a skiving edge vis--vis the transducer. The skiving edge is adjoined by non-skiving edges. Finally, the closure has a top surface that meets the skiving edge; the top surface is level with the tape-bearing surface. Also included are related devices; tape head apparatuses for recording and/or reproducing tapes, comprising such tape heads; and methods of fabrication thereof.
