Hybrid total station with electronic leveling

A GNSS data collection system includes a pole mounted GNSS receiver and inclination sensors. A data collection module provides a data collection graphical user interface (GUI) visible on a hand-held data collector computer. The data collector computer is communicably coupled to the GNSS receiver and receives three-dimensional location data and inclination data for the range pole in real-time. A virtual level component uses the inclination data to display on the GUI real-time tilt information in the form of a virtual bubble level indicator. The inclination data and height of the range pole are used to calculate and display horizontal distance and direction to level the GNSS receiver, using:
incline=a cos(cos(x_tilt)*cos(y_tilt))
where,
xtilt=the inclination data for the range pole along the x axis,
ytilt=the inclination data for the range pole along the y axis, and
horizontaldistancefromlevel=rh*sin(incline)
where,
rh=the height of the range pole.

System and Method for Measuring Position and Orientation of a Rigid Body
20190004619 · 2019-01-03 ·

A system and method for determining a position and orientation (e.g., pose) of a rigid body is disclosed. The rigid body may be a position enabled projector, a surveying rod, a power tool, a drill robot, etc., in a given space. The position of the rigid body is specified by a set of three coordinates and the orientation is specified by a set of three angles. As such, based on these six values, the position and orientation of the rigid body can be determined.

Forensic mapping instrument
10060742 · 2018-08-28 ·

A device relating to a standalone laser target system which has the capacity to employ gravity to achieve a position plumb with the ground and to be easily operated at night or in low light conditions. The laser target is retro-reflective and is self-plumbing from the target frame. The target frame also has a detachable handle, which is used for positioning the target. The target frame further has an internal power source to illuminate the target. The device is designed to be easily packed in a protective carrying case to facilitate transport of the device.

Anchor device positioning and plumbing tool and methods related thereto
09909329 · 2018-03-06 ·

Featured are devices and methods for positioning an anchoring device (e.g., bolt, stud) when cast in place in concrete so as to leave the anchoring device plumb. Such methods include securing one end of an anchor plumbing tool having a leveling mechanism to the anchoring device and manipulating another portion of the plumbing tool until the leveling mechanism indicates that the anchoring mechanism is plumb. Such methods further include positioning the anchoring device in cast in place concrete while the concrete is in its fluid state before set up occurs so as to leave the anchoring device in a vertical or perpendicular line relative to gravity. Such a plumbing tool includes a distal end portion that removably couples to an end of the anchoring device, the leveling mechanism and an upper portion that is usable to manipulate the anchoring device.

Nail-setting surveyors rod
09857173 · 2018-01-02 ·

A combination tool includes a surveyor's rod having a tubular body and a hammer that is slidable within the tubular body using an external handle. The tubular body defines an opening to insert a nail to be hammered into a surface below the tubular body. A nail-loading device may be affixed adjacent to the tubular body. The nail-loading device has a tube for receiving a nail and a lever arm that can be pivoted away from the tube to receive a nail and then pivoted back to its resting position to force the nail into the tubular body through the opening in the tubular body. A hammer-stop may be affixed to the tubular body to form a physical stop to the downward movement of the hammer. A handle lock may be employed along with a rod-tip point.
