Systems, methods and apparatus for soil and seed monitoring

Systems, methods and apparatus are provided for monitoring soil properties including soil moisture, soil electrical conductivity and soil temperature during an agricultural input application. Embodiments include a soil reflectivity sensor and/or a soil temperature sensor mounted to a seed firmer for measuring moisture and temperature in a planting trench. A thermopile for measuring temperature via infrared radiation is described herein. In one example, the thermopile is disposed in a body and senses infrared radiation through an infrared transparent window. Aspects of any of the disclosed embodiments may be implemented in or communicate with an agricultural intelligence computer system as described herein.

Glare reduction shield

A system for a glare reduction shield including an attaching assembly and a shield hood assembly is disclosed. The attaching assembly includes an attaching member which engages a top portion of a thermometer. Secured to the attaching member, with a hinge mechanism, is a shield hood of the shield hood assembly. The hinge mechanism is defined by a spring housing and a spring movably secured within the spring housing. The shield hood includes a lowered and raised configuration. The shield hood is used in the lowered configuration to block sunlight glare on a display screen of the thermometer for ease of viewing. The shield hood is rotated away from the attaching member about the hinge mechanism to achieve the lowered configuration. The shield hood is in the raised configuration when stored. The shield hood is rotated towards the attaching member about the hinge mechanism to achieve the raised configuration.

The third surface causes electromagnetic waves propagating in the third direction to propagate in a fourth direction. A second surface emits electromagnetic waves propagating in the fourth direction to the first detection surface.

A reflecting section provided in the direction of the second light being emitted reflects the second light. A light receiver receives infrared light emitted by the first source and reflected by the object, and receives infrared light radiating from the object as a result of the object being irradiated with the infrared light emitted by the first source and being irradiated with the second light emitted by the second source and reflected by the reflecting section. A detector detects the object based on the infrared light received by the light receiver.

A controller is coupled to the spectrometer and controls the lamp assembly to selectively heat and cool the substrate. In another aspect, a method of includes exposing a substrate to a radiation source. A spectrum of radiation is detected by a spectrometer across a substrate. The spectrum of radiation passed through the substrate is determined and used to determine a temperature of the substrate.
