METHOD AND MACHINE FOR BALANCING A VEHICLE WHEEL
20170227414 · 2017-08-10 ·

A method for balancing a vehicle wheel includes mounting a wheel to be balanced on a rotating shaft of a machine computerized for measuring imbalances, and selecting an optimum commercial balancing weight which, when positioned on a correction plane, minimizes residual imbalance on reference planes of the wheel where the balancing tolerance is considered. One compares the residual imbalance value at the reference planes with the prescribed balancing tolerance after subtracting a vector of the static imbalance generated by the optimum balancing weight. An indicator device is activated to indicate on the wheel the optimum axial position of a correction plane for a balancing weight where the residual imbalance at the reference planes is within tolerance.

METHOD OF BALANCING ASSEMBLY OF WHEEL AND TIRE

A method of balancing an assembly of a wheel and a tire, may include measuring a maximum-value position of RFV of a tire and marking the measured maximum-value position, as a tire reference position, measuring each of the internal runout and external runout of the wheel, extracting a primary component of a waveform of the measured internal runout and a primary component of a waveform of the measured external runout and setting the former and latter measured primary components to be internal and external runout waveforms, respectively, synthesizing the internal and external runout waveforms and marking a minimum-value position on a synthesis waveform resulting from the synthesizing, as a wheel reference position, and aligning the tire reference position on the tire and the wheel reference position on the wheel to have the same phase and assembling the wheel and the tire.

Wheel of a vehicle

A wheel for a vehicle has a wheel rim, a hub portion, and at least one spoke which connects the hub portion to the wheel rim, and also at least one cover element which at least partially covers the spoke region. The cover element is designed to, in the installed position thereof, produce an imbalance-free state of the wheel.

Tire imbalance correction using coating method

A method of correcting imbalance of a tire comprises a step of forming a coated layer on the inner surface of the tire at the point of lightest weight of the tire so as to reduce the imbalance of the tire. The coated layer has a black color substantially the same as the color of the inner surface so that it becomes difficult to recognize the correction of the weight imbalance.

Apparatus and method for automatically applying weight material to a wheel

An apparatus for applying weight material onto a wheel may include a conveyor assembly, upper and lower severing-head assemblies, and upper and lower control arms. The severing-head assemblies may be mounted above and below the conveyor assembly and may include a housing, a severing device and a dispensing mechanism. The dispensing mechanism may position the weight material from a source relative to the severing device. The severing device may separate a predetermined amount of weight material from a source. The control arms may be movably mounted above and below the conveyor assembly and have weight-application tools configured to transfer the predetermined amounts of weight material from the severing-head assemblies to locations on the wheel.

Tire load estimation system and method

A tire load estimation system includes at least one tire supporting a vehicle, in which the at least one tire includes a pair of sidewalls extending to a circumferential tread. A sensor is mounted to the at least one tire. A footprint is formed by the tread and includes a centerline with a footprint centerline length. The footprint centerline length is measured by the sensor. A tire load estimator receives a precalibrated sensitivity, the footprint centerline length during straight-line driving conditions, a reference footprint value, and a reference load value as inputs. The tire load estimator determines an estimation of tire load and outputs the estimation to at least one of a vehicle control system and a vehicle electronic control unit. A method for estimating the load of a tire is also provided.

A vehicle wheel balancing machine having a rotating shaft which supports a vehicle wheel, a means for supporting the rotating shaft, and force sensor means adapted to detect the imbalance forces generated during the rotation of the rotating shaft; an accelerator means accelerates the shaft and the wheel and an angular sensor means senses an angular position; an electronic means processes information obtained by the force sensor means and determines the value and the position of correction masses adapted to compensate an imbalance present on the wheel; a moving indicator means is moved by a motorized actuator means and is configured to project a light dot on the wheel; a fixed indicator means projects a luminous beam, perpendicular to the axis of rotation, or a luminous dot, having a fixed and known angle of incidence on the inner surface of the wheel; a coincidence of the moving luminous point with the fixed luminous line or dot identifies a desired position of a counterweight on the diameter of the wheel.

Device and method for attaching a balancing weight to a mounting surface on an inner side of a wheel rim

The invention relates to a device for attaching a balancing weight (2) to a mounting surface (17) on an inner side (3) of a rim dish of a wheel rim (4) and provides for a mounting head (1) to be dimensioned in such a way that it fits into the rim dish. The mounting head (1) includes a support element (5), which is radially displaceable relative to the wheel rim (4) and on which a feeler element (6) is axially movably arranged, the feeler element (6) having a convex contact surface (14) and a receptacle (12) for at least one balancing weight (2), said receptacle being oriented towards the inner side (3). The mounting head (1) is configured in such a way that the contact surface (14) may be brought into contact with a boundary surface (18) of the inner side (3), and may be displaced along said boundary surface until the balancing weight (2) comes radially into contact with the mounting surface (17).

A METHOD FOR BALANCING A WHEEL WITH INTEGRATED ELECTRIC MOTOR

The invention relates to a method of balancing a wheel assembly of an electric car, in which the wheel assembly comprises an in-wheel motor. The wheel assembly (with the tire mounted on it) is spun by the in-wheel motor, the imbalance is measured by a sensor on the wheel and the angular orientation is determined by an orientation sensor. A control unit in the car then determines the position and weight needed for balancing the wheel.
