System and method for droplet detection
Systems and methods for detection of a signal from droplets of an emulsion. An exemplary system may comprise a fluid transporter having a tube with an open end for aspirating droplets, a singulator to arrange the droplets in single file and to space the single-file droplets from one another, and a detection channel in optical communication with a detector configured to detect a signal from droplets. In some embodiments, the singulator may have a channel junction at which a stream of droplets in single file is combined with a stream of spacing fluid, and a tapered spacing channel extending downstream from the channel junction toward the detection channel. In some embodiments, the fluid transporter may suck droplet-containing fluid and spacing fluid through the detection channel from respective sources. In some embodiments, droplets may be subjected to a disaggregation routine before they are passed through the detection channel.

The microfluidic analyser comprising a droplet generator, an analyte flow channel in fluid communication with said droplet generator at a first end, wherein said flow channel is configured to allow the droplets to flow in from the first end and exit from a second opposing end, said flow channel receiving at least one illumination channel positioned at a predetermined location between the first and the second end to excite contents of the droplets and said flow channel further comprising a plurality of receiving channels set at predetermined angles to an axis of the flow channel to interrogate at least one optical signal from the illuminated droplet traversing the flow channel and wherein said receiving channels terminate in a signal detector at the distal end away from the flow channel.
On-chip microfluidic processing of particles
Described herein are microfluidic devices and methods that can greatly improve cell quality, streamline workflows, and lower costs. Applications include research and clinical diagnostics in cancer, infectious disease, and inflammatory disease, among other disease areas.
Multimodal characterization of a fluid using a single droplet
Apparatus for performing multiple different measurements on a small specimen sample, enabling testing and diagnoses in real time at the point of care are described. The core of the apparatus includes an ultrasonic resonator cavity where acoustic resonances are used to determine the speed of sound and sound attenuation in a single droplet. Acoustic measurements are made in the reflection mode using electrical impedance of a small piezoelectric crystal transducer that operates in the thickness longitudinal mode. Combination of this technology with electromagnetic, electrical, and magnetic fields permits multiple types of measurements to be made using the same resonator cavity.

Method for ultra-high performance screening of biological objects
The invention relates to the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutics. Proposed is a method for ultra-high performance screening of biological objects which is based on microfluidic generation of droplets of a biocompatible water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion, and also a method for producing a monodisperse biocompatible water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion. The invention can be used in diagnosing conditions and diseases in mammals, as well as for investigating biological objects.
AUTOFOCUS SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PARTICLE ANALYSIS IN BLOOD SAMPLES
Particles such as blood cells can be categorized and counted by a digital image processor. A digital microscope camera can be directed into a flowcell defining a symmetrically narrowing flowpath in which the sample stream flows in a ribbon flattened by flow and viscosity parameters between layers of sheath fluid. A contrast pattern for autofocusing is provided on the flowcell, for example at an edge of a rear illumination opening. The image processor assesses focus accuracy from pixel data contrast. A positioning motor moves the microscope and/or flowcell along the optical axis for autofocusing on the contrast pattern target. The processor then displaces microscope and flowcell by a known distance between the contrast pattern and the sample stream, thus focusing on the sample stream. Blood cell images are collected from that position until autofocus is reinitiated, periodically, by input signal, or when detecting temperature changes or focus inaccuracy in the image data.
