METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING A CELLULOSIC PULP PROCESS
A method and apparatus for controlling a cellulosic pulp process for producing a pulp product having a desired pulp property is disclosed. The method involves illuminating an in-process portion of pulp using a first wavelength of light, and receiving a scattered light spectrum from the illuminated portion of pulp, the scattered light spectrum including spectral components that have been shifted in wavelength through interaction with a constituent of the illuminated portion of pulp. The method also involves filtering the scattered light spectrum to separate the spectral components, and identifying spectral features in the filtered scattered light spectrum that correspond to the pulp property. The method further involves generating a control signal for controlling the pulp process based on variations in the identified spectral features to cause the pulp property to fall within a desired range.

INSPECTION SYSTEM, INSPECTION METHOD, PROGRAM, AND STORAGE MEDIUM
An inspection system includes an acquisition unit and a determination unit. The acquisition unit acquires an image representing a surface of an object. The determination unit performs color determination processing. The color determination processing is performed to determine a color of the surface of the object based on a plurality of conditions of reflection. The plurality of conditions of reflection are obtained from the image representing the surface of the object as acquired by the acquisition unit, and have a specular reflection component and a diffuse reflection component at respectively different ratios on the surface of the object.
Repair tool for turbomachinery and related method
A guide system for repairing turbomachinery includes a housing; a guide tube have a hollow interior for accepting a working tool module; an axial motor for moving the guide tube axially with respect to the housing; a rotational motor for rotating the guide tube with respect to the housing; and an attachment for securing the housing with respect to a turbomachinery casing. A repair kit and method are also provided.
Device and method for measuring the moisture in die casting molds
A device and a method are provided for measuring the moisture in die cast molds, the cavity of which is connected via an evacuation conduit to an evacuation device. The modular assembly of the device is connectable to the evacuation conduit and includes a sensor assembly to measure the moisture of gases evacuated from the mold cavity. The sensor assembly includes an emitter emitting electromagnetic radiation and a detector detecting electromagnetic radiation. On the basis of the measured values obtained during the evacuation action it can be determined whether the amount of a water/release agent mixture jetted into the mold cavity needs to be altered before the actual casting action.
LASER CLADDING TOOL HEAD AND MACHINED SURFACE SENSING METHOD THEREOF
A laser cladding tool head and a machined surface sensing method thereof are provided for a computer numerical control (CNC) machining center. The laser cladding tool head has a temperature sensing module and a camera sensing module, which can sense the temperature, lightness, and profile of a molten pool, and then provide them to a computer numerical control unit for a feedback control, so as to increase the processing effect and quality of a work-piece.
METHOD FOR OPTIMIZING PLASTIC COMPOSITIONS USED IN PACKAGING TO INCREASE SHELF-LIFE OF PERISHABLE PRODUCTS AND A SYSTEM THEREOF
The present invention relates to relates to a method of optimizing a plastic composition formed from a plurality of resin feedstocks. A plurality of resin feedstocks are provided. The plurality of resin feedstocks are blended to form the plastic composition. One or more properties of the plastic composition, including radiation absorption, radiation transmission, gas evolution, radiation fluorescence, or melting properties, are measured. The ratio of the plurality of resin feedstocks being blended into the plastic composition is adjusted, based on said measuring, to form an optimized plastic composition. A system for performing the method is also disclosed.
Systems and processes for early detection of biological ammonia oxidation in water using fluorometry
This invention relates generally to a system and process for early detection of biological ammonia oxidation in water utilizing a fluorescence-based sensor and process. Various embodiments are configured to read increases in a fluorescence excitation-emission wavelength pair that is responsive to a period of time (days to weeks or even longer) prior to the onset of biological ammonia oxidation, which is considered to be a nitrification event. Fluorescence excitation/emission pairs that have proven to be reliable include a fluorescence excitation wavelength of about 230 nm and an emission wavelength of about 345 nm and an excitation wavelength of 325 and an emission wavelength of 470. The system and process enable drinking water utilities to improve management of its distribution systems and facilitate earlier corrective actions, resulting is less loss of treated water through flushing and other tangible benefits.
