Within the region of the blunt end there is an outer membrane and an inner membrane with an air cell located therebetween. The apparatus comprises a holder on which the incubated bird eggs are stored with their pointed ends facing downwards, wherein the embryo adjoins the inner membrane, a first detection device configured to detect the position and geometry of the air cell, and an opening device configured to create an opening in the calcified shell at the blunt end of the incubated bird egg above the taut inner membrane. Due to the open calcified shell, the sex of the embryo may be determined in a reliable way.
Methods and systems in egg hatching
The present disclosure relates to methods and systems in egg hatching, based on hatching eggs in a tray (2), comprising arranging eggs in a pattern in or on the tray, comprising egg supporting positions and holes together defining the pattern, wherein the holes are dimensioned to allow chicks (27) after hatching to pass there through into a crate (4), detecting at least one of numbers of unhatched eggs (22) in or on the tray; numbers of dead chicks in the crate; and numbers of objectionable chicks in the crate, and supplementing or removing chicks to or from the crate in correspondence therewith.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR EXAMINING EGGS
A method and system are presented for use in examining an egg by monitoring radiation response from the egg during an incubation period. The monitoring comprises analyzing measured data indicative of the radiation response from the egg being detected at different time intervals of an incubation period, identifying predetermined dynamics in intensity variations of said radiation response during the different time intervals, and identifying in different time intervals presence of an alive embryo in said egg, and development stages and age of the embryo being developed.

Egg flat identification system, and associated method
An egg flat identification system for identifying an egg flat among a collection of egg flats is provided. Such a system includes a first measurement device configured to determine a first measurement of a plurality of eggs carried by an egg flat. A processor is in communication with the first measurement device. The processor is configured to receive the first measurements from the first measurement device. A second measurement device is configured to determine a second measurement of the eggs in the collection of egg flats. The second measurement device is in communication with the processor such that the processor is capable of receiving the second measurements. The processor compares the second measurements with the first measurements so as to identify a respective egg flat among the collection of egg flats.
APPARATUS AND METHOD TO DETECT UPSIDE DOWN EGGS
An apparatus to identify upside-down eggs of a batch of eggs includes a heating module configured to expose an air cell in each egg of the batch of eggs to a radiation flux. The apparatus also includes an imaging module with a thermal camera configured to capture thermal images of the batch of eggs when the eggs are not exposed to the radiation flux. The apparatus further includes an analyzer module configured to detect the presence of a heated zone in the air cell of each egg from the thermal images and identify upside-down eggs based on the presence of the heated zone. A method to identify upside-down eggs from a batch of eggs includes heating the batch of eggs with a radiation source, such as an infrared source, so as to generate a hot zone inside an air cell of each egg without significantly heating the rest of the eggs. Thermal images of the eggs are captured while the eggs are not exposed to the radiation source, analyzed to detect the presence of the hot zone and to identify the upside down eggs.
APPARATUS FOR ANALYZING A MEDIA, AND ASSOCIATED EGG IDENTIFICATION APPARATUS AND METHOD
An apparatus for interrogating a media to be analyzed, such as an avian egg, is provided. Such an apparatus includes an emitter assembly configured to emit light toward a media. The emitter assembly has a first emitter source configured to emit a first light signal and a second emitter source configured to emit a second light signal. The first and second light signals are transmitted through the media in phase quadrature. A detector assembly is configured to detect the first and second light signals transmitted through the media. The detector assembly is further configured to resolve a relative or absolute amplitude of each of the first and second light signals. A processor is configured to process the detected signal to identify a property of the media using at least one of the relative and absolute amplitudes of the first and second light signals. An associated method is also provided.
METHOD FOR INSPECTING, AS THEY PASS, EGGS PLACED IN CONTAINERS
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for inspecting, as they pass, eggs placed in containers. According to the invention, during the movement of these containers (1) along a conveyor line, the following steps are carried out: triggering a data acquisition cycle on each passage of a downstream end of a container (1) through a first position, which is determined by a first position sensor (6) placed along said conveyor line, upstream and downstream positions being considered with reference to the direction of movement of the containers; then for a data acquisition cycle of a container (1), detecting the passage of said downstream end of said container (1) through at least a second position determined by a second position sensor (7-8) placed along said conveyor line, a signal triggering thermal image acquisition being sent to a thermal camera (5) each time said downstream end of said container (1) is detected at at least a second position in order to trigger capture of one or more thermal images by said thermal camera (5) of the portion of the container (1) then placed in its field of view, said second position sensors (7-8) being arranged with respect to one other to ensure an inspection of all of the eggs of the container (1) considered by said thermal camera (5) when a plurality of second sensors are employed.
Furthermore, the data acquisition cycle of said container comprises performing, in a third position separate from said first and second positions, a step of candling the eggs placed in said container, in which step a light flux is emitted in the direction of at least one egg to be candled and the light flux passed through each corresponding egg is then analysed depending on the level of light flux absorbed by the egg, and said data thus acquired on the eggs of a container (1) are associated with a unique identifier of this container (1).
