In accordance with the present invention the basket (10) comprises at least one fixed holding spike (30) or a fixture (90) for a removable holding spike (92) the placement of which coincides with the path of movement of one of the spray nozzles (20), said fixed holding spike or fixture for a removable holding spike comprising means (36) to optically differentiate the holding spike from the remaining holding spikes.

The method further comprises determining a load configuration for the dish rack based on the sensor information gathered. The load configuration determined identifies one or more types of content loaded onto the dish rack. A wash cycle for washing the content loaded onto the dish rack is adapted based on the load configuration determined.

The present invention provides a rack assembly that supports stemware in an inverted position and is configured to slidably mount inside of a dishwasher, thereby permitting the washing and drying of the stemware. The rack assembly is comprised of a box shaped wireframe that has plurality of supporting bars on top side of the wireframe. The supporting bar is interrupted at predetermined position to form multiple loops. The loops are configured to receive the stem of the stemware from open side and support the stemware in inverted position wherein the base of stemware rest on the loop. The rack assembly further includes a clip member that is positioned adjacent to the loop and hinged to the supporting bar. The clip member is configured to pivot and press against the base of the stemware, thereby preventing the stemware from shaking or moving during washing.
