FLEXIBLE TUBE AND INSERTION APPARATUS

A flexible tube includes a first outer layer covering an outer side of a closely-wound region; a second outer layer forming a second flexible portion which is more difficult to bend than the first flexible portion; a third outer layer covering an outer side of the sparsely-wound region, and forming a third flexible portion which is as difficult to bend as the second flexible portion, or more difficult to bend than the second flexible portion; and a fourth outer layer arranged consecutively between the second and third outer layers to cover the outer side of a boundary position of the closely-wound region and the sparsely-wound region, and reducing a difference in bending difficulty/bending easiness at the boundary position.

VARIABLE-STIFFNESS ACTUATOR
20170321666 · 2017-11-09 · ·

A variable-stiffness actuator capable of providing different stiffnesses for a flexible member includes a shape-memory member that can transit in phase between a first phase and a second phase and an inducing member that causes phase transition between the first phase and the second phase into the shape-memory member. The shape-memory member is arranged in the flexible member with at least one free end. The shape-memory member takes a flexible state in which it is easily deformable by an external force when it is in the first stare, so as to provide lower stiffness for the flexible member. The shape-memory member takes a rigid state in which it tends to take a memorized shape memorized beforehand against an external force when it is in the second stare, so as to provide higher stiffness for the flexible member.

An ultrasound endoscope includes: an insertion portion configured to be inserted into a living body; an ultrasound transmitting and receiving unit; a balloon surrounding the ultrasound transmitting and receiving unit; a water supply port for supplying water to the balloon; an operating unit provided at a proximal end side of the insertion portion; a cable extending from the operating unit; a channel provided in the insertion portion and leading to the water supply port to supply water toward the water supply port; a pipe provided in the cable; a cylinder provided at the operating unit, one end of the channel and one end of the pipe being opened to the cylinder; an injection port provided in the pipe; and a duct having one end leading to the pipe via the injection port and having the other end to which a syringe for injecting water or supplying air is attachable.

Medical device sheath

A medical device sheath that includes a relatively inelastic body having a proximal end longitudinally separated from a distal end and defining a first lumen, an aperture located at the proximal end in fluid communication with the lumen and configured to admit an elongate endoscope body into the first lumen, and a transparent tip located longitudinally adjacent to an endoscope lens when the elongate endoscope body is located within the first lumen. The endoscope sheath may also include an elongate secondary tube defining a secondary lumen. A method of using the medical device sheath is also described.

FLEXIBLE TUBE AND INSERTION APPARATUS

A distal-end rigid section of an insertion section of an endoscope, includes: a first base of a metallic material, which constitutes a distal-end portion of the insertion section of the endoscope; a second base of a resin material, which is formed on an axially proximal-end side of the first base; a cylindrical portion protruding from the second base toward an axially distal-end side of the first base and including a non-circular hole portion in which an illumination light source having a non-circular outer shape, generating light and emitting illumination light is disposed; and a through-hole formed by opening a part along an outer peripheral surface of the first base, the cylindrical portion being disposed in the through-hole such that the illumination light is emitted to the axially distal-end side of the first base.

FLEXIBLE TUBE AND INSERTION DEVICE

A flexible tube includes an envelope, a spiral tube and a built-in component. The spiral tube includes a first area portion and a second area portion. The spiral tube is under an initial tension throughout the overall length, and the built-in component includes a supplement area portion which supplements the elasticity of the spiral tube.
