A processing device initializes an inertial motion capture sensor affixed to a segment of a subject user's body in a detection mode of operation and measures at least one of angular speed or linear acceleration of the segment of the subject user's body using the inertial motion capture sensor in the detection mode of operation. Responsive to the at least one of the angular speed or linear acceleration satisfying a threshold criterion, the processing device switches the inertial motion capture sensor from the detection mode of operation to a capture mode of operation, captures three-dimensional (3D) motion capture data associated with movement of the segment of the subject user's body, and stores the 3D motion capture data in a data store of the inertial motion capture sensor for subsequent retrieval and analysis by a separate computing device.

A tangent signal is generated. A slope of an arctangent of the tangent signal is determined, wherein the slope corresponds to rotational speed of the target. The speed and/or direction of the target can be transmitted by a sensor IC.

A sensor device includes a first sensor arrangement configured to generate first sensor signals based on sensing a varying magnetic field generated by a pole wheel having a pole wheel pitch, wherein the first sensor signals represent a first differential signal that defines a first measurement value; a second sensor arrangement configured to generate at least one second sensor signal based on sensing the varying magnetic field, wherein the at least one second sensor signal defines a second measurement value that is phase shifted from the first measurement value; and a signal processor configured to detect the pole wheel pitch based on the first measurement value and the second measurement value, and adjust a gain setting of an amplifier circuit based on the detected pole wheel pitch, where the amplifier circuit is configured to amplify the at least one second sensor signal.

Anemometer for independently measuring wind speed and direction in fluid medium. A second anemometer portion has at least one attribute resulting in different wind resistance in fluid medium than a first anemometer portion, such as a different: mass, shape, density, specific gravity, drag coefficient and/or freedom of motion. Different wind resistance causes inclination of anemometer when deployed to fall autonomously along a trajectory of fluid medium, where anemometer drag coefficient curtails initial ballistic trajectory such that anemometer enters free-fall descent after deployment. Anemometer includes inclinometer to obtain inclination measurements, and memory/transmitter to store/transmit inclination measurements. Local wind direction/speed is determined from inclination measurements based on direction/degree of anemometer inclination in correlation with measurement timings. Anemometer may be deployed from moving airborne platform. Anemometer may include conical second portion embedded into spherical first portion, where conical second portion has smaller mass and larger surface area than spherical first portion.

Wind turbine

A wind turbine for generating electric energy including a tower equipped with rotatable nacelle with rotor which is rotatable about a horizontal rotational axis and which comprises an electric generator. The wind turbine additionally comprises a device for determining flow direction and speed of the wind and a device for or regulating the alignment of the rotor against the wind. The device for determining speed and flow direction comprises pair of receiving antennas, for obtaining electric signals using electrically influenced particles, molecules carried by the wind and are supplied to a correlation measurement device. Here, the time needed by the electrically influenced particles/molecules to traverse the distance between the receiving antennas of a pair of receiving antennas is determined. Subsequently, speed and flow direction of the wind are calculated in a computing device and are supplied to the device for controlling or regulating the alignment of the rotor.

An acoustic emissions sensor may sense when a first seal face and a second seal face forming a seal interface of the dry gas seal are in an operational condition relative to one another. A processor may receive output signals from the speed sensor and the acoustic emissions sensor, and may establish an operating condition of the dry gas seal based on the signal from the speed sensor when the first seal face and the second seal face reach the operational condition relative to one another.

System and method for estimating wheel speed of vehicle

A system and method for estimating a wheel speed of a vehicle are provided. The system includes a wheel speed sensor that detects a rotation speed of a wheel of the vehicle and a longitudinal acceleration sensor that detects a longitudinal acceleration of the vehicle. A controller converts the longitudinal acceleration to a wheel acceleration, compensates for the converted wheel acceleration based on a compensation value obtained using wheel speed information, integrates the compensated wheel acceleration, and calculates a wheel speed estimation value based on the integrated wheel acceleration.

In one illustrative configuration, an air quality monitoring system may enable wide-scale deployment of multiple air quality monitors with high-confidence and actionable data is provided.
