Systems and methods for obtaining a calibrated permittivity dispersion measurements of a subsurface formation by measuring an impedance of the subsurface formation using a borehole imager at a first one or more frequencies; measuring a permittivity of the subsurface formation using a reference tool at a second one or more frequencies; calculating a first dispersion curve of the permittivity of the subsurface formation based at least in part on the measured impedance of the subsurface formation at the first one or more frequencies; extrapolating the permittivity of the subsurface formation to the second one or more frequencies using the calculated first dispersion curve of the permittivity of the subsurface formation; calibrating the permittivity of the subsurface formation based at least in part on the extrapolated permittivity of the subsurface formation and the measured permittivity of the subsurface formation; and generating a second dispersion curve of the permittivity of the subsurface formation based at least in part on one or more of the calibrated permittivity of the subsurface formation at the first one or more frequencies and the measured permittivity of the subsurface formation at the second one or more frequencies.

Fluid flow paths may be identified from a combination of apertures, shear stress, and normal stress for fractures in a naturally fractured hydrocarbon reservoir.

Methods may include creating a circuit board by metallizing at least part of a first surface on a first side of a substrate to define at least one metallized area on the first surface, wherein the substrate comprises a ceramic material and includes: the first side, including at least (i) the first surface, and (ii) an elevated surface elevated from the first surface, and a second side opposite the first side; flattening at least partially the elevated surface to a predefined first flatness to create a mounting portion by removing material from the elevated surface; attaching an electronics component to the first surface; and mounting the circuit board on an electronics carrier by adhering at least part of the mounting portion to a mounting surface on the electronics carrier. Flattening at least partially the elevated surface to the predefined first flatness may be carried out by removing the material by areal grinding.

Dynamic diameter measurement device for downhole wireline cables

A diameter measurement device for measuring the diameter of a wireline cable dynamically during moving in and out of a borehole. The measurement device has a first pair of opposed shafts, a rotating roller on each shaft of said first pair of opposed shafts, a first resilient member mounted to urge at least one of the shafts of said first pair of opposed shafts toward the wireline cable to be measured, and a first intrinsic measuring unit operatively associated with the first resilient member to measure the displacement thereof. The measuring device further has at least a second pair of opposed shafts angularly displaced with respect to the first pair of opposed shafts, a rotating roller on each shaft of said second pair of opposed shafts, a second resilient member mounted to urge at least one of the shafts of said second pair of opposed shafts toward the wireline cable to be measured, and a second intrinsic measuring unit operatively associated with the first resilient member to measure the displacement thereof as the wireline cable is moved lengthwise between the rollers; each of said first and second intrinsic measuring devices outputting to a digitizer for generating digital measurements of the diameter at various positions on the circumference of and along the length of said wireline cable, which measurements are transmitted to and stored in a logging device. At least one of the first and second intrinsic measuring units can be an eddy current measurement device to measure deflection of at least one of the first and second resilient members using eddy currents.

System and method for measuring downhole parameters

Systems, tools and techniques for measuring downhole parameters are provided. The techniques involve providing a downhole tool with a sensing apparatus. The sensing apparatus has at least one source positionable about the downhole tool, at least one sensor electrode positionable about a front face of the downhole tool for measuring electrical signals from the source, and a raised insulating cover positionable along the front face of the downhole tool for defining at least one contact surface. The raised insulating cover extends over at least a portion of the sensor electrode whereby the sensor electrode is positionable adjacent to the subterranean formation for electrically coupling thereto without direct contact therewith.

System and method for measuring downhole parameters

Systems, tools and techniques for measuring downhole parameters are provided. The techniques involve providing a downhole tool with a sensing apparatus. The sensing apparatus has at least one source positionable about the downhole tool, at least one sensor electrode positionable about a front face of the downhole tool for measuring electrical signals from the source, and a raised insulating cover positionable along the front face of the downhole tool for defining at least one contact surface. The raised insulating cover extends over at least a portion of the sensor electrode whereby the sensor electrode is positionable adjacent to the subterranean formation for electrically coupling thereto without direct contact therewith.

Locating Collars On Well Casings

A method and system may include disposing an electromagnetic (EM) logging tool in a wellbore. The EM logging tool may include a transmitter disposed on the EM logging tool and a receiver disposed on the EM logging tool. The method may further include transmitting an electromagnetic field from the transmitter into one or more, measuring the eddy current in the one or more tubulars with the receiver, and forming an EM log from the plurality of measurements. Additionally, the method may include identifying a representative signature of a collar from the EM log, locating a plurality of signatures that are similar to the representative signature, iteratively locating a collar signature based at least in part on the representative signature, the plurality of signatures that are similar to the representative signature, and a joint length; and displaying a depth for each of the one or more collars.

Subsurface data transfer using well fluids

Some examples of transferring data from a subsurface of a wellbore using well fluids include positioning multiple data recording devices at a subsurface location in a wellbore. When a well fluid flows through the wellbore past the subsurface location to a surface, each data recording device is configured to receive and store data describing subsurface wellbore conditions at or near the subsurface location. At least a portion of the data describing the subsurface wellbore conditions are stored on each data recording device. Each data recording device is released from the subsurface location. The well fluid flows each data recording device to the surface.
