An air conditioner includes a housing including an illumination opening at a position viewable by a user; a blower provided in an airflow path connecting an inlet and outlet; a light emitter provided in the housing viewable through the illumination opening and including a light incident portion to receive light emitted from a first light source and a first light emission portion to emit first light generated from the light and including light simulating natural light; and at least one light extractor emitting second light that is part of the light received by the light emitter that reaches an edge portion of the light emitter without being emitted as the first light or second light received from the first light source or a second light source different from the first light source without intervention of the light emitter. The at least one light extractor is provided in the airflow path.
PLANAR LIGHT SOURCE
A planar light source includes a light guide member including light-emitting units separated by a groove and one or more light sources disposed in one or more of the light-emitting units. The light-emitting units include outer portions and at least one inner portion located in a region surrounded by the outer portions in a plan view. In the plan view, at least one of the outer portions is adjacent to a smaller number of light-emitting units than a number of light-emitting units to which one of the at least one inner portion is adjacent. In a state in which the same power is supplied and one of the outer portions and one of the at least one inner portion are allowed to individually emit light, brightness of the one of the outer portions is higher than brightness of the one of the at least one inner portion.
Phase plate and fabrication method for color-separated laser backlight in display systems
According to examples, a phase plate may include a transparent substrate and a photopolymer layer attached to the transparent substrate. The photopolymer layer may adjust a backlight via a phase adjustment and focusing. The phase plate may focus a plurality of red, green, and blue components of the backlight onto respective red, green, and blue subpixels of a thin-film-transistor (TFT) layer deposited thereon. A distance between the photopolymer layer of the phase plate and the plurality of red, green, and blue subpixels of the thin-film-transistor (TFT) layer may be in a range from about 200 μm to about 500 μm. In some examples, the phase plate may be part of a liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus along with a red, green, blue (RGB) laser to provide backlight; a grating light guide to transmit the backlight; and a liquid crystal display (LCD) layer on the thin-film-transistor (TFT) layer.
Display device
A display device includes: a display panel; a light source configured to provide light to the display panel; a bottom chassis on which the light source is disposed; a mold frame coupled to the bottom chassis and comprising a projection; and a light conversion sheet disposed between the display panel and the bottom chassis. The light conversion sheet may have, at an edge portion thereof, a coupling hole into which the projection is inserted.
Controlling light sources of a directional backlight
Disclosed is an imaging directional backlight including an array of light sources, and a control system arranged to provide variable distribution of luminous fluxes, scaled inversely by the width associated with the respective light sources in the lateral direction, across the array of light sources. The luminous intensity distribution of output optical windows may be controlled to provide desirable luminance distributions in the window plane of an autostereoscopic display, a directional display operating in wide angle 2D mode, privacy mode and low power consumption mode. Image quality may be improved and power consumption reduced.

Laser module
A light incidence plane of the core 15 includes a plurality of planes 15a to 15c unparalleled with each other to which a light beam emitted from at least one laser element 21 is entered. When seen on a cross section taken along the longer direction of an optical fiber 10, light beams entered to a core 15 from the inclined planes 15b and 15c inclined to an axis CA of the optical fiber 10 in the plurality of the planes 15a to 15c are propagated from a region surrounded by a line and the inclined planes 15b and 15c forming an acute angle, the line being passed through the incident points of the light beams entered to the inclined planes 15b and 15c and parallel with an axis CA.
Lens unit
A lens unit with a central axis is provided. The lens unit includes a fixed portion, a movable portion, and a first driving assembly. The fixed portion includes an outer frame and a bottom combined with the outer frame. The outer frame and the bottom are arranged along the central axis. The movable portion is movably connected to the fixed portion, and carries a lens with an optical axis. The central axis is not parallel to the optical axis. The first driving assembly is connected to the movable portion, and drives the movable portion to move relative to the fixed portion. The first driving assembly also includes a biasing element made of a shape memory alloy.
EYE TRACKING WITH SWITCHABLE GRATINGS
A switchable grating may be used to redirect illuminating light for illuminating a user’s eye in an eye tracking system, to facilitate the determination of eye position and/or orientation. The eye tracking system may be used in a near-eye display. An eye tracking camera obtains an eye image, and a controller performs an initial determination of the eye position. The controller may switch the switchable grating to direct the illuminating light beam onto the eye, for a better position and/or eye orientation determination.
