SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MONITORING A BLOOD FLOW THAT DOES NOT INTERACT WITH VENTILATED LUNGS OF A PATIENT
20210315469 · 2021-10-14 ·

A method and a system to monitor the progression of a pulmonary ailment in patients who are mechanically ventilated or spontaneously breathing. By delivering specific gases to the patient and monitoring the release of those gases over various timescales, the system monitors the progression of pulmonary shunt. No invasive procedures are required, and the system is able to operate through the sole delivery and monitoring of respiratory gases.

DEVICE FOR TESTING SNIFFING OF A PET AND METHODS USING THE DEVICE

The invention concerns a device (1) for testing sniffing of a pet, comprising a fixed casing (10) intended to be placed on the surface separately from the pet, a receptacle (2), which is rigidly attached in the first front opening (102) of the casing, an air flow sensor (3), an odor line (4), a calculator unit (6) for determination of a air flow derived databased on the air flow measured, a presence sensor (5) detecting the presence of the pet. The unit (6) is configured to command sending of the odorant stream (41) in the odor line (4) as a reaction to at least the fact that the presence sensor (5) has detected the presence of the pet.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ASSESSING RESPIRATORY DISTRESS
20210186371 · 2021-06-24 ·

A method and apparatus are disclosed for assessing a respiratory function from plethysmography data obtainable, for example, from a pulse oximeter. A pulsatile waveform obtained from pleth data is processed to obtain a second waveform extending over multiple respiratory cycles and representing respiration-related variations in a pulse-beat area defined by the pulsatile waveform. The second waveform is analyzed to obtain information indicative of respiratory distress. A respiratory index that provides a good indicator of respiratory distress may be computed based on a magnitude of respiratory peaks in the second waveform. Applications to asthma and sleep apnea are described.

Methods and systems estimate cardio-respiratory parameter(s), such as from in-phase and quadrature channels. The channels may represent patient chest movement and may be generated with a sensor, such as a contactless sensor that may sense movement with radio-frequency signals. In the methods/systems, the in-phase and quadrature channels may be processed, such as in a processor(s), using relative demodulation to generate cardio-respiratory parameter estimate(s). Optionally, the processing produces a jerk signal that may be filtered for producing a heart rate estimate, such as from zero-crossings of the filtered signal. Optionally, the processing produces a chest velocity signal that may be filtered for producing a respiratory rate estimate, such as from zero-crossings of the filtered signal. Optionally, a respiratory volume, such as tidal volume, may be estimated from an intrapulmonary pressure signal generated by applying a function to a chest displacement signal where the function relates intrapulmonary pressure and chest displacement.

NON-INVASIVE DETERMINATION OF AIRWAY RESISTANCE

An apparatus and method for non-invasive determination of airway resistance for the detection of pulmonary airway disease includes providing an apparatus and method wherein changes in a pulsatile blood pressure waveform are detected by PhotoPlethysmoGram (PPG) or Ballistography (BSG) and are automatically determined to reflect decreases in airflow and changes in airway resistance.

EARLY DEMENTIA BIOMARKER BASED ON THE RESPONSE TO SENSORY STIMULATION DURING NON-RAPID EYE MOVEMENT (NREM) SLEEP
20210282698 · 2021-09-16 ·

An apparatus and method for early detection of dementia overcomes the shortcomings of conventional systems and methods for detecting dementia. This is achieved by providing an apparatus and method for employing an early dementia biomarker based on the response to sensory stimulation during sleep, such as during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep.

MACRO/MICRO-STRUCTURE OF SLEEP AND SIMILAR STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS TO OPTIMIZE PAIN TREATMENT
20210282704 · 2021-09-16 ·

An apparatus and method for employing the macro- and micro-structure of sleep and similar states of consciousness to optimize pain-treatment are disclosed wherein an objective biomarker of pain-related sleep disturbance guides pain treatment from a sleep perspective. Furthermore, this concept can be extended to states of reduced consciousness such as coma or sedation. Additionally, it could be applied on individuals who are non-communicative due to injury, disease, language issues and/or infancy.
