Laser backlight for narrow-frame edge-lit type liquid crystal display
Laser backlight source for a narrow-frame edge-lit type liquid crystal display. The laser backlight includes visible laser groups, beam shaping devices, reflectors and a liquid crystal display light guide plate. After being reflected by reflectors to change a laser propagation direction by 180 degrees, laser beams emitted by visible lasers are incident on the liquid crystal display light guide plate through a light-permeable surface. When being incident on the lateral light-permeable surface of the liquid crystal display light guide plate via the reflectors, the visible laser beams emitted by adjacent visible laser groups generate light overlap larger than 10% of the area of each light spot. A sum of lengths of laser spots of the visible laser groups at a same waveband on the lateral light-permeable surface of the liquid crystal display light guide plate is greater than or equal to 0.65 times of the length of the light-permeable surface.
SOLID STATE PULSE STEERING IN LIDAR SYSTEMS
LiDAR system and methods discussed herein use a dispersion element or optic that has a refraction gradient that causes a light pulse to be redirected to a particular angle based on its wavelength. The dispersion element can be used to control a scanning path for light pulses being projected as part of the LiDAR's field of view. The dispersion element enables redirection of light pulses without requiring the physical movement of a medium such as mirror or other reflective surface, and in effect further enables at least portion of the LiDAR's field of view to be managed through solid state control. The solid state control can be performed by selectively adjusting the wavelength of the light pulses to control their projection along the scanning path.
Vertical emitters with integral microlenses
An optoelectronic device includes a semiconductor substrate having first and second faces. A first array of emitters are formed on the first face of the semiconductor substrate and are configured to emit respective beams of radiation through the substrate. Electrical connections are coupled to actuate selectively first and second sets of the emitters in the first array. A second array of microlenses are formed on the second face of the semiconductor substrate in respective alignment with the emitters in at least one of the first and second sets and are configured to focus the beams emitted from the emitters in the at least one of the first and second sets so that the beams are transmitted from the second face with different, respective first and second focal properties.
Waveguide-based projector
A projector includes an illumination waveguide layer, a collimation waveguide layer, and a spatial modulator. The illumination waveguide layer expands a light beam which is coupled to the spatial modulator. The spatial modulator modulates the expanded light beam to provide a line of light points of controllable brightness. The collimation waveguide collimates light of the light points to obtain a fan of collimated light beams. Each collimated light beam of the fan has an angle corresponding to a coordinate of the corresponding light point of the line. A tiltable reflector may be placed at the exit pupil to scan the fan of light beams in a plane non-parallel to the plane of the fan, thus providing a 2D image in angular domain. An array of Mach-Zehnder interferometers may be used in place of the illumination waveguide layer and the spatial modulator to provide the line of light points.
LIGHT SOURCE COMPRISING AT LEAST ONE SEMICONDUCTOR CHIP BEARING AT LEAST ONE DIODE
A light source comprising: —at least one semiconductor chip capable of emitting incident radiation: —an output stage comprising at least one fiber or free space for propagating a plurality of predefined modes; —at least one optical part having a microstructured main surface arranged opposite the semiconductor chip for intercepting the incident radiation, spatially modifying the phase of the incident radiation and forming, by a plurality of reflections and/or transmissions on the optical component, transformed light radiation comprising at least the predefined modes.
SPECKLE REDUCTION METHODS IN LINE SCANNERS
A system includes a first light source that emits a beam of light; an electrical modulator that imparts a time-varying modulation on the beam of light; a beam- shaping system that shapes the beam of light and projects the shaped beam of light onto an object; an image sensor that captures the beam of light reflected from the object; and processors that determine three-dimensional (3D) coordinates of points on the object.
Transmissive Metasurface Lens Integration
Metasurface elements, integrated systems incorporating such metasurface elements with light sources and/or detectors, and methods of the manufacture and operation of such optical arrangements and integrated systems are provided. Systems and methods for integrating transmissive metasurfaces with other semiconductor devices or additional metasurface elements, and more particularly to the integration of such metasurfaces with substrates, illumination sources and sensors are also provided. The metasurface elements provided may be used to shape output light from an illumination source or collect light reflected from a scene to form two unique patterns using the polarization of light. In such embodiments, shaped-emission and collection may be combined into a single co-designed probing and sensing optical system.
OPTICAL SYSTEM
Light emitting systems and optical systems including a light emitting system and a lens system are described. The light emitting system includes a pixelated light source having a plurality of discrete spaced apart pixels, and includes a plurality of light redirecting elements, each light redirecting element corresponding to a different pixel in the plurality of pixels. The light redirecting elements may be adapted to alter one or both of a central ray direction and a divergence angle of light received from the corresponding pixel. A lens system disposed to receive light from the light emitting system may include a reflective polarizer and a partial reflector.
Laser system with staircased slow-axis collimators
In various embodiments, pointing errors in a non-wavelength-beam-combining dimension of a laser system are at least partially alleviated via staircased collimation lenses.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GENERATING WHITE LIGHT FOR PROJECTORS
A system and method of generating white light for a projection system in a compact form factor using laser diodes, a reflection system, and a phosphor target. Light emitted from the laser diodes can be directed towards a region of the phosphor target, where the phosphor target is excited and emits light in a desired spectrum in all directions. Some emitted light is collected by a collection lens. The emitted light collected by the collection lens can be combined with light from the original laser diodes to create white light for use in the projection system. Light emitted in a direction away from the collection lens can be redirected to the collection lens by the reflection system that employs a curved reflector on one side of the phosphor target and a flat reflector on the opposite side of the phosphor target.
