Antibacterial filter and turbine flowmeter for tests on respiratory functionality
09999374 · 2018-06-19 · ·

A flowmeter and filter assembly for spirometry have a flowmeter with a turbine rotor and sensor means for detecting the speed of rotation of the rotor, and a filter upstream of the flowmeter. An air-conveying device modifies the direction of the flow of air at an outlet from the filter to set the rotor in rotation within the flowmeter. The air-conveying device is integrated in the filter instead of in the flowmeter.

A portable hand-held spirometer is disclosed for use in taking respiratory tests and storing and displaying test results. The configuration of the spirometer includes handgrips that are positioned to ensure that the user is properly positioned to provide maximum breathing required for valid test results to be obtained. The spirometer also includes a progressively illuminated indicator that can be viewed by the user during a test to provide an indication in real-time to the user of the expected/desired duration of the exhalation or inhalation test. The indicator is completely illuminated only when the measured accumulated volume of air passing through the spirometer equals a predicted volume determined based on the age, gender, height, weight and ethnicity of the user stored in the spirometer. The structures and arrangement of a turbine assembly and sensors is also disclosed. Further, a method of receiving, storing and displaying information on the spirometer via a color touch screen display is also disclosed.

Smartphone Based Peak Flow Meter
20180064368 · 2018-03-08 ·

Peak flow meters are often used by asthma patients to monitor their physical condition. It is imperative that a peak flow meter is conducive to patient usage and recording. A peak flow meter with a tube and rotary fin for use with a mobile device is described. The peak flow meter receives air from the patient through the tube which spins the rotary fin. The peak flow meter physically attaches to a mobile device. The rotation of the rotary fin interrupts the light going into the camera or light sensor of the mobile device. The rate of the interruption is converted to airflow measurement that is displayed to the user, saved to the mobile device, and uploaded to cloud storage.
