Polarized window assembly
A window assembly includes an electro-optic element which has a first substantially transparent substrate defining first and second surfaces. The second surface includes a first electrically conductive layer. A second substantially transparent substrate defines third and fourth surfaces. The third surface includes a second electrically conductive layer. A primary seal is disposed between the first and second substrates. The seal and the first and second substrates define a cavity therebetween. An electro-optic medium is disposed in the cavity. The electro-optic medium is switchable such that the electro-optic element is operable between substantially clear and darkened states. An absorptive layer is positioned on the fourth surface of the electro-optic element and a reflective layer is positioned on the absorptive layer.
Electrochromic element, optical filter, lens unit, image pickup apparatus, and window member
As an example of an EC element in which vertical color separation is suppressed, the present disclosure provides an EC element including a pair of electrodes, a solvent, an anodic EC compound, and a cathodic EC compound. In the EC element, the difference between a solvation free energy of an oxidized form of the anodic EC compound in water and a solvation free energy of the oxidized form in octanol is 35 kcal/mol or more, and the difference between a solvation free energy of a reduced form of the cathodic EC compound in propylene carbonate and a solvation free energy of the reduced form in octanol is −35 kcal/mol or less.
Electro-optic elements and method of forming
An electro-optic element includes a first electroactive compartment including an electroactive film having a first electroactive component and a second electroactive compartment including an electroactive solution or gel having a second electroactive component. An ion selective material is disposed between the first and second electroactive compartments and is configured to inhibit diffusion of the second electroactive component in an activated state from the second electroactive compartment to the first electroactive compartment. At least one of the first and second electroactive components is electrochromic such that the electro-optic element is configured to reversibly attenuate transmittance of light having a wavelength within a predetermined wavelength range when an electrical potential is applied to the electro-optic element.

DISPLAY DEVICE
Disclosed is a high quality display device which avoids complicated element structure, and does not unnecessarily reduce portability. The display device comprises: a pair of substrates which are disposed facing each other, and on each of which electrodes are formed; and a material layer which is sandwiched between the pair of substrates. The material layer contains: a coloring material which changes color upon the application of a voltage; and a light-emitting material which emits light upon photoexcitation.
IMPROVED PROCESS OF ULTRASONIC SPRAY PYROLYSIS DEPOSITION OF ONE OR MORE ELECTROCHROMIC AND/OR ELECTROLYTIC FILMS ON A SUBSTRATE
A process of making an electrochromic or an electrolytic film by Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis (USP) deposition on a substrate comprising: mixing a surfactant to an aqueous precursor solution comprising an electrochromic component or an electrolytic component to provide a spray solution; introducing the spray solution into an ultrasonic spray deposition nozzle at a constant flow rate between 0.1 mL/min and 2 mL/min and applying an ultrasonic frequency between 80 and 120 kHz to generate atomized droplets of the precursor solution; entraining the atomized droplets with a controlled jet of air as gas carrier at a pressure between 0.50 to 2.0 psi, onto a pre-heated substrate at a temperature of 200 to 450° C.; thermally converting the atomized droplets when depositing onto the pre-heated substrate to generate an electrochromic or an electrolytic film.
PHOTOCHROMIC-ELECTROCHROMIC COMPOSITIONS
A composition comprising a diarylethene photochromic anodic species, a cathodic species and an electrolyte that comprises a supporting electrolyte and a solvent. Electrochromic devices such as optical filters are prepared from such compositions.
Electrochromic composition
The present invention relates to an electrochromic composition comprising at least one reducing compound, at least one oxidizing compound which is selected from specific viologen derivatives, and at least one dye. Said composition can be used as a variable transmittance medium for the manufacture of an optical article, such as an ophthalmic lens.
