Human body measurement using thermographic images

A medical image processing method performed by a computer, for measuring the spatial location of a point on the surface of a patient's body including: acquiring at least two two-dimensional image datasets, wherein each two-dimensional image dataset represents a two-dimensional image of at least a part of the surface which comprises the point, and wherein the two-dimensional images are taken from different and known viewing directions; determining the pixels in the two-dimensional image datasets which show the point on the surface of the body; and calculating the spatial location of the point from the locations of the determined pixels in the two-dimensional image datasets and the viewing directions of the two-dimensional images; wherein the two-dimensional images are thermographic images.

Apparatuses and Methods for Registering a Real-Time Image Feed From an Imaging Device to a Steerable Catheter

A method of registering a real-time image feed from an imaging device inserted into a steerable catheter using a navigation system is provided. The method includes inserting the imaging device into a working channel of the steerable catheter and generating a real-time image feed of one or more reference points, wherein the orientation of the reference points is known. The method further includes orienting a handle of the steerable catheter to a neutral position, displaying the real-time image feed on a display of the navigation system, and registering the real-time image feed to the steerable catheter by rotating the displayed image so that the reference points in the real-time image feed are matched to the known orientation of the reference points.

A phrenic nerve pacing monitor assembly for a cryogenic balloon catheter system used during a cryoablation procedure, which monitors movement of a diaphragm of a patient, includes a pacing detector and a safety system. The pacing detector directly monitors movement of the diaphragm of the patient to detect when phrenic nerve pacing is occurring. Additionally, the pacing detector generates monitor output based on the movement of the diaphragm of the patient. The safety system receives the monitor output and based at least in part on the monitor output selectively provides an alert when movement of the diaphragm of the patient is atypical. The safety system is configured to provide the alert only while at least one of (i) phrenic nerve pacing is occurring, and (ii) cryoablation is occurring.

MONITORING A RESPIRATORY CURVE

A method is provided for monitoring a current respiratory curve of a patient with regard to a recording region which is imaged by magnetic resonance scanning. The method includes acquiring a reference respiratory curve of the patient over a plurality of respiratory cycles; establishing a respiration state of the patient that is suitable for the magnetic resonance scanning based on the reference respiratory curve; determining at least one reference recording time window and a trigger threshold value for starting a magnetic resonance scan based on the previously determined respiration state; carrying out at least one magnetic resonance scan within the determined reference recording time window of the current respiratory curve using the trigger threshold value; and continually acquiring and monitoring the current respiratory curve during the magnetic resonance scan in the reference recording time window.

Sensor system and method for determining a breathing type

A sensor system is for determining a breathing type of a subject. It has first and second electromagnetic radiation (e.g. optical) sensors, for example PPG sensors. The sensors are for application to the skin of the subject at different sensor locations. The signals from the first and second sensors are analyzed to determine if there is predominantly a first breathing type (e.g. chest breathing) or predominantly a second breathing type (e.g. belly breathing), or a mixture of the first and second breathing types.

Smart Carpet Systems And Methods Of Using Same For Monitoring Physical And Physiological Activities

Systems and methods for using a smart carpet to monitor a health status of an individual. The smart carpet has electronics and a plurality of pressure sensing areas for sensing plantar pressure of the individual. A monitoring computer comprising a processor and a memory including machine readable instructions processes carpet data. A first part of the smart carpet is scanned at a first frequency and a second part of the smart carpet is scanned at a second frequency greater than the first frequency. Plantar pressures are received from the second part of the carpet and the instructions evaluate the plantar pressures to determine at least one of a physical activity and a physiological activity. Where an emergency condition is determined, an alarm is communicated to monitoring personnel.
