ARTICLES AND METHODS FOR SAMPLE PREPARATION

Articles and methods for preparing a surface for obtaining a patient sample, such as blood, are generally provided. In some embodiments, the methods involve wiping a surface of skin of a patient in preparation for obtaining a sample (e.g., a blood sample) from the patient. In some embodiments, the methods involve wiping the surface of the skin with two or more wipes. For instance, the surface of the skin may be wiped with a first wipe comprising a surfactant and a second wipe comprising an antiseptic solution. Advantageously, the use of a first wipe including a surfactant followed by a second wipe may remove a higher amount of certain contaminants (e.g., proteins, bacteria, viruses) from the surface of the skin as compared to the use of a single wipe or by hand-washing alone.

MICROSCALE PLASMA SEPARATOR

The invention is directed to methods and devices for efficient separation of plasma irons whole blood which are suitable for point of care use in resource poor environments, in some embodiments, elements of such devices comprise (a) a sample collection receptacle (SCR) with at least one port, the sample collection receptacle capable of holding a predetermined volume of a sample of undiluted whole blood drawn through a port; (b) a filter chamber having an inlet and an outlet, and containing at least one filter capable of separating plasma from blood cells as sample passes from an inlet side to an outlet side of the at least one filter whenever the filter chamber is placed in Quid communication with a port of the sample collection receptacle; and (c) a manually driven pump operationally associated with the SCR and filter chamber for (i) drawing a predetermined volume of sample into ore SCR by a first user action and (ii) driving the predetermined volume at a substantially constant linear flow under a pressure not exceeding 2 psi from the SCR through the filter chamber and the outlet of the filter chamber by a second user action.

Body fluid sampling arrangements

An arrangement for producing a sample of body fluid from an opening created in a skin surface at a sampling site including a cartridge with a plurality of compartments and a plurality of sampling sites, and a detector assembly. Each sampling site includes a skin-penetration member having a first end configured to pierce the surface of the skin and an inner lumen in communication with the first end, a spring actuator operatively associated with the skin-penetration member, and a needle hub connecting the skin-penetration member and the spring actuator. The needle hub includes a reagent pad and the spring actuator is configured to drive the skin-penetration member to form the wound opening. Each compartment at least partially encloses the skin-penetration member, the spring actuator, and the needle hub of a respective sampling site.

Integrated closed IV line draw system

The present invention extends to a closed IV line draw system which may be used with a PIVC or another vascular access device to collect blood samples. The closed IV line draw system consists of various integrated components that allow the system to remain closed during the blood collection process. In this way, the closed IV line draw system simplifies the blood collection process and reduces the risk of contamination to the PIVC or other vascular access device.

TEST DEVICE

Aspects of the present invention relate to a test device comprising a housing configured to receive a test component, an inlet, integral with the housing, configured to receive body fluid; and a reservoir in fluid communication with the inlet and the test component. The inlet may be integral with the housing. Optionally the reservoir may comprise a recess in the upper wall of the housing and being in fluid communication with the inlet and the test component. Alternatively, the housing may comprise a projection from an upper wall of the housing extending into a cavity formed by the housing such that it contacts the test component to direct fluid from the reservoir along at least a part of the test component.

BLOOD COLLECTION SYSTEM INCLUDING A BAFFLE

A blood sample collection system, may include a housing, the housing including a blood collection port; and a baffle chamber; a needle formed through the housing and into the blood collection port; and a baffle formed within the baffle chamber to counteract a vacuum within a blood collection tube when pierced by the needle.

Biological fluid separation device and biological fluid separation and testing system

A biological fluid separation device that is adapted to receive a multi-component blood sample is disclosed. After collecting the blood sample, the biological fluid separation device is able to separate a plasma portion from a cellular portion. After separation, the biological fluid separation device is able to transfer the plasma portion of the blood sample to a point-of-care testing device. The biological fluid separation device of the present disclosure also provides a closed separation and transfer system that reduces the exposure of a blood sample and provides fast mixing of a blood sample with a sample stabilizer. The biological fluid separation device is engageable with a blood testing device for closed transfer of a portion of the plasma portion from the biological fluid separation device to the blood testing device. The blood testing device is adapted to receive the plasma portion to analyze the blood sample and obtain test results.

SINGLE UNIT BODILY FLUID COLLECTION, MIXING, AND TESTING UNIT
20230181070 · 2023-06-15 · ·

A single unit bodily fluid collection and mixing device that is used for collecting a specified amount of bodily fluid, mixing the bodily fluid with a specified amount of solution, mixing the bodily fluid and solution in a contained volume to prevent contamination, and applying the resulting mixture to a lateral flow test surface. The unit is a single device, and does not require multiple pieces or systems to collect patient bodily fluid, measure out solution, combine the patient bodily fluid, and apply the mixture to a testing surface. Rather, the single unit already contains the desired amount of solution, a collection tube receives a specified amount of bodily fluid from a patient, and the single device can be used to mix the two fluids together.

CUPPING DEVICE AND BLOOD ANALYSIS APPARATUS USING THE SAME

Provided are a cupping device and a blood analysis apparatus using the same. The cupping device includes a cupping cup having a first opening defined in a lower portion thereof, at least one blood collecting container disposed adjacent to an outer surface of the cupping cup and having an accommodation space configured to accommodate blood therein, and a connecting pipe disposed between the cupping cup and the blood collecting container to connect an inner space of the cupping cup to the accommodation space of the blood collecting container.
