Electrostatic inks and method for their production

The application relates to a method of producing an electrostatic ink composition, the method comprising: mixing a resin and a conductive pigment in a continuous mixer to form a compounded mixture comprising particles comprising the resin and the pigment; adding a liquid carrier to the compounded mixture, such that the particles comprising the resin and the conductive pigment are dispersed in the liquid carrier; and, before, during or after adding the liquid carrier to the compounded mixture: imparting a charge on the particles comprising the resin and the pigment.

White ink composition for ink-based digital printing

A white ink composition for ink-based digital printing includes a white pigment. The white pigment is titanium dioxide. A method for ink-based digital printing includes applying dampening fluid to an imaging member to form a dampening fluid layer, patterning the dampening fluid layer using a laser imaging system, applying a white ink composition to the imaging member surface having the patterned dampening fluid disposed thereon to form an ink image, partially curing the ink image, and transferring the partially cured ink image to a printable substrate.

Liquid electrophotographic inks

A method of manufacturing a liquid electrophotographic ink concentrate includes: milling a mixture comprising ink pigments and polyamine-based dispersants in the presence of milling media to produce nano-scale ink pigments having an average particle size of less than 100 nanometers; and attaching at least one nano-scale ink pigment near surfaces of a base resin particle to form a pigment-resin composition.

A liquid toner for printing conductive traces is provided. The liquid toner includes a carrier liquid and toner particles dispersed in the carrier liquid. The toner particles include a low symmetry electrically conducting material dispersed in a pigment.

LIQUID ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC INK COMPOSITION

A method for coating pigment particles is provided, the method comprising heating a polymer resin in a carrier fluid to dissolve the polymer resin, suspending in the carrier fluid the pigment particles to be coated; and effecting precipitation of the polymer resin from the carrier fluid, such that a coating of the resin is formed on the pigment particles.

LIQUID ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC INK COMPOSITION

A method for coating pigment particles is provided, the method comprising heating a polymer resin in a carrier fluid to dissolve the polymer resin; suspending in the carrier fluid white pigment particles to be coated; and cooling the carrier fluid at a rate of 2° C./hr or less to effect precipitation of the polymer resin from the carrier fluid such that a coating of the resin is formed on the pigment particles, thereby producing the white liquid electrophotographic ink composition.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING RESIN PARTICLE DISPERSION, METHOD FOR PRODUCING TONER FOR ELECTROSTATIC IMAGE DEVELOPMENT, AND TONER FOR ELECTROSTATIC IMAGE DEVELOPMENT

A method for producing a resin particle dispersion includes: obtaining a phase-inverted emulsion by adding a neutralizer to a resin solution prepared by dissolving a resin having an acid value in an organic solvent to thereby neutralize the resin and then adding an aqueous medium to the resulting resin solution to subject the resin to phase inversion emulsification; and removing the organic solvent from the phase-inverted emulsion. In the course of obtaining the phase-inverted emulsion, a maximum agitation power per unit mass (kg) of the resin when the resin solution containing the aqueous medium added thereto is agitated to perform the phase inversion emulsification is from 0.4 W to 20 W inclusive.

Metallic pigment particles

A method for producing a conductive liquid electrophotographic ink composition is described, the method comprising: heating a polymer resin in a carrier fluid to dissolve the polymer resin; adding conductive metallic pigment particles to be coated to the carrier fluid; cooling the carrier fluid to effect precipitation of the polymer resin from the carrier fluid such that a coating of the resin is at least partially formed on the conductive metallic pigment particles; reheating the suspension of partially coated conductive metallic pigment particles in the carrier fluid; and cooling the carrier fluid at a controlled rate to effect precipitation of the polymer resin from the carrier fluid such that a coating of the resin is formed on the conductive metallic pigment particles, thereby producing the conductive liquid electrophotographic ink composition.
