An image forming apparatus includes: an image former that has an image carrier for supporting toner and prints a first image formed by exposure to the image carrier and a developing processing on continuous paper; and a hardware processor that controls the image former so as to print a second image on the continuous paper in a case where information on at least one of coverage and a printing distance of the first image formed by the image former meets a predetermined condition, wherein the hardware processor controls the image former so as to stop forming the second image on the image carrier before a toner amount of the second image per unit width at a predetermined position on the image carrier in a main scanning direction exceeds a threshold value affecting an exposure memory.

DUPLEX PRINTING

A duplex printing system and method of configuring the same are described. In examples, an image, such as a test pattern, on one side of a print substrate is printed to be out of phase with an image, such as a test pattern, on the other side of the print substrate. This is achieved by adjusting a configuration of a print buffer that is located between first and second print engines of the duplex printing system. In particular examples, a length of a web within the print buffer is controlled such that the images are out of phase.

Either front or back surface of the recording material is in contact with the conveyor member in a region between the first and the second electrification adjusters.

The image former prints an image on continuous paper by: forming an electrostatic latent image on an image holder based on image information of a job; developing the electrostatic latent image with toner, thereby forming a toner image on the image holder; and transferring the toner image onto the continuous paper. Based on the image information of the job, the hardware processor calculates a coverage of the image to be printed on the continuous paper. Based on the calculated coverage, the hardware processor determines a continuously printable distance on the continuous paper. The hardware processor causes the informing unit to inform a user of the continuously printable distance before the image former starts the printing.
