Method and apparatus for penetrating tissue

A body fluid sampling system for use on a tissue site includes a single drive force generator. A plurality of penetrating members are operatively coupled to the force generator. The force generator moves each of the members along a path out of a housing with a penetrating member exit, into the tissue site, stops in the tissue site, and withdraws out of the tissue site. A flexible support member couples the penetrating members to define a linear array. The support member is movable and configured to move each of the penetrating members to a launch position associated with the force generator.

Medical device inserters and processes of inserting and using medical devices

An apparatus for insertion of a medical device in the skin of a subject is provided, as well as methods of inserting medical devices. Embodiments include removing a substantially cylindrical cap from an inserter to expose a substantially cylindrical sleeve, removing a cover from a substantially cylindrical container holding sensor components, and fitting the sensor components into the inserter.

Vacuum assisted lancing system with elective vacuum release and method for blood extraction with minimal pain
09770201 · 2017-09-26 ·

A vacuum assisted lancing system for blood extraction can include a tubular body having a vacuum chamber, a lancing mechanism configured to removably couple with a lance, a vacuum mechanism including a piston slideably coupled within the body, a release mechanism for selectively holding the vacuum mechanism in an energized state, and an opening for allowing fluid communication between the vacuum chamber and an atmosphere surrounding the vacuum chamber. The system can include structure for selectively commencing dissipation of the vacuum and a fixed or adjustable depth controller. A method of manipulating a surface for blood extraction can include coupling the lancing system to the surface, blocking the opening, creating a vacuum, moving the lance coupler from a first position distal from the surface to a second position proximal to the surface, maintaining the vacuum for a period of time, and commencing dissipation of the vacuum by unblocking the opening.

Apparatus and methods for a lancet device for reuse of lancets for home-users

A lancet device used for drawing a blood sample for testing has a lancet, a lancet holding mechanism, a lancet activation plunger, and a removable lancet cap with an opening for touching against the human body. The lancet has a needle, where the needle is movable inside the cap with the lancet activation plunger. The lancet device has positioned inside the device, a disinfectant material, disinfecting the lancet needle for each use. The disinfectant material lets the needle move or rest inside the disinfectant material disinfecting the needle between each use. The lancet needle moves through the disinfectant material when used, disinfecting the needle for each use.

Provided is a blood sampler including a needle for piercing a user's skin and a sampler body for receiving and holding a test strip in place during blood sampling and testing. When the test strip is inserted into the sampler body, the sampler body aligns one end of the test strip with the needle such that the blood sampled through the needle ends up on the test strip, while keeping the other end of the test strip exposed outside the sampler body such that a blood sample analyzer can be connected to the test strip without removing the test strip from the sampler body. The blood sampler and the test strip collectively form a cartridge, which can be inserted into a launcher for launching the blood sampling cartridge towards the user's skin to facilitate blood sampling.

Adhesive and Peripheral Systems and Methods for Medical Devices

A repeater system may control a pump by using a repeater and a user interface. An adhesive patch system may be used for affixing a pump or other object to a human body. Such an adhesive patch system may include two sets of adhesive members, each member including an adhesive material on at least one side so as to attach to the body. The members of the first set are spaced to allow the members of the second set to attach to the body in spaces provided between the members of the first set, and the members of the second set are spaced to allow members of the first set to detach from the body without detaching the members of the second set. Also, fill stations and base stations are provided for personal pump systems.

RELATIVELY SMALL DEVICES APPLIED TO THE SKIN, MODULAR SYSTEMS, AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF

The present invention generally relates, in certain aspects, to relatively small devices applied to the skin, modular systems, and methods of use thereof. In some aspects, the device is constructed and arranged to have more than one module. For instance, the device may have a module for delivering to and/or withdrawing fluid from the skin and/or beneath the skin of a subject and a module for transmitting a signal indicative of the fluid delivered to and/or withdrawn from the skin and/or beneath the skin of the subject, a module for analyzing a fluid withdrawn from the skin and/or beneath the skin of the subject, or the like. In some embodiments, the modules are connectable and/or detachable from each other, and in some cases, the connections and/or detachments may be performed while the device is in contact with the subject, e.g., while affixed to the subject. In some embodiments, the device may be repeatedly applicable to the skin of the subject to deliver to and/or withdraw fluid from the skin and/or beneath the skin of a subject, e.g., at the same location, or at different locations on the skin of the subject. In some aspects, the devices may be self-contained and/or have a relatively small size, and in some cases, the device may be sized such that it is wearable and/or able to be carried by a subject. For example, the device may have a mass and/or dimensions that allow the device to be carried or worn by a subject for various periods of time, e.g., at least about an hour, at least about a day, at least about a week, etc., or no more than about an hour, no more than about 10 min, etc.

Automated insertion assembly

An automated insertion assembly includes a first dermal perforation assembly configured to releasably engage a first subdermal device. A first actuation assembly is configured to drive the first dermal perforation assembly into a user's skin to a first depth and drive the first subdermal device into the user's skin to a second depth. The second depth is greater than the first depth.
