A conveyance device includes a guide, a positioner, and a pusher. The guide extends in a longitudinal direction of an image bearer and is disposed upstream from a transfer position, at which an image is transferred from the image bearer to the recording medium, in a direction of conveyance of a recording medium to guide the recording medium. The positioner positions an end of the guide relative to the image bearer. The pusher contacts the guide at a position closer to a center of the guide than the end of the guide in the longitudinal direction, to push the guide toward the image bearer.

A sheet transport device includes a transport unit that transports a sheet, an endless belt that transmits a driving force from a motor to the transport unit, a rotary member that rotates by being pressed by the sheet transported by the transport unit, and a sensor that generates a signal in accordance with rotation of the rotary member. The rotary member is arranged in such a manner that a portion of the rotary member faces an inner peripheral portion of the endless belt.

A transfer unit includes a seamless transfer belt, a plurality of transfer rollers, a backup roller, a plurality of pairs of first bearing holders, a pair of second bearing holders and a pair of sliders. Each of the sliders is reciprocated such that each of the first bearing holders slides on the corresponding one of the first step ribs to be reciprocated in a direction toward and away from the transfer belt and the second bearing holder slides on the second step rib to be reciprocated in the direction toward and away from the transfer belt. The first step rib arranged most upstream in the direction of travel of the transfer belt and the second step rib are arranged side by side in the axial direction of the transfer roller, and overlap each other when viewed in the axial direction.

Provided is an image forming apparatus including: a transfer portion; a fixing portion; a detection unit that is capable of detecting a deflection amount of the recording material; and a controller configured to control a conveying speed of the fixing portion, wherein the detection unit has a contact portion and a detection portion, wherein the contact portion is movable to a first position and a second position, wherein the controller moves the contact portion from the second position by outputting the signal for setting the conveying speed to a second speed larger than the conveying speed o when the contact portion is located at the second position, and wherein the controller determines an abnormal state when the contact portion is located at the second position and an output time of the signal is longer than or equal to a predetermined time.

A mounting member to be mounted on a member that moves in a traveling direction includes: a rectangular sheet member; and an attachment portion having a first surface bonded to one end portion of a reverse surface of a downstream side portion of the sheet member in the traveling direction, the attachment portion being detachably attached to an attachment-receiving portion and having a surface facing a direction different from a direction of the first surface and bonded to the sheet member.

A sheet characteristic detection device includes: a detector that is disposed on a sheet ejection path through which a sheet is ejected and that detects an electrical resistance value of the sheet; and a charge neutralizer that is disposed on a downstream side of the detector on the sheet ejection path and that neutralizes electric charge on the sheet.

An image forming apparatus includes a transfer portion, a fixing portion, a detection unit configured to detect a bending amount of the sheet nipped between the transfer portion and the fixing portion, and a control unit. The detection unit includes a rotation portion configured to rotate in a rotation direction from a standby position by being pressed by the sheet nipped by the transfer portion and the fixing portion, a rotary encoder configured to output a pulse signal corresponding to a rotation amount of the rotation portion, and a rotation detector configured to detect that the rotation portion has reached a detection position downstream of the standby position in the rotation direction. The control unit controls a sheet conveyance speed of the fixing portion based on the pulse signal output from the rotary encoder after the rotation detector detects that the rotation portion has reached the detection position.

A transport device includes a transport mechanism and a carry in/out mechanism. The transport mechanism transports a recording medium from inside of an image forming apparatus that forms an image on the recording medium, to outside of the image forming apparatus, and transports the recording medium carried in from the outside of the image forming apparatus, to the inside thereof. The carry in/out mechanism performs, in a linked manner, an operation including receiving the recording medium transported by the transport mechanism toward the outside, and further transporting the recording medium toward the outside of the image forming apparatus, and an operation including receiving the recording medium carried in from the outside, and further transporting the recording medium toward the transport mechanism.

A movable chute is located downstream of a transfer unit and upstream of a fuser in a first direction. A downstream end of the movable chute located at a second position is farther from a sheet conveyance path than the downstream end of the movable chute located at a first position. A reconveyance chute forms a reconveyance path of a sheet that is reconveyed from the fuser toward the transfer unit. The reconveyance path is located between the movable chute and the reconveyance chute in a sheet thickness direction. The movable chute has a sheet conveyance surface and a first reconveyance surface. The sheet conveyance surface guides the sheet that is conveyed from the transfer unit toward the fuser along the sheet conveyance path. The first reconveyance surface faces opposite to the sheet conveyance surface in the sheet thickness direction. The first reconveyance surface forms the reconveyance path.

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a transfer member, a first applying portion for applying a transfer bias to the transfer member, a recording material charging member for electrically charge a toner image transfer surface to an opposite polarity to a normal charge polarity of toner, a second applying portion for applying a recording material charging bias to the recording material charging member, a detecting portion for detecting a current flowing through the transfer member and a voltage applied to the transfer member, and a controller for controlling the recording material charging bias on the basis of a detection result by the detecting portion when a charging region of the recording material charged by the recording material charging member passes through a transfer portion.
