An image forming apparatus includes a transfer roller, a fuser, a chute, a drive source, a reciprocating mechanism, and a controller. The transfer roller transfers toner to a sheet. The fuser fixes toner on the sheet. The chute is located upstream from the fuser in a sheet conveying direction. The chute is configured to convey the sheet toward the fuser. The chute is movable between a first position and a second position. The reciprocating mechanism reciprocates by drive force from the drive source and moves the chute between the first position and the second position. The controller executes: a first mode of actuating the drive source when conveying one sheet; and a second mode of not actuating the drive source when conveying one sheet. The controller switches between the first mode and the second mode in a middle of a print job.

Heat of the fixing device propagates to the component. The controller controls a passing sheet interval between a plurality of sheets passing through the fixing device. The controller executes throughput control for controlling a sheet interval, which is an interval between a preceding sheet and a subsequent sheet passing through the fixing device, such that a temperature of a non-passage region through which sheets do not pass in the fixing device is suppressed to a predetermined first limit temperature or less and a temperature of the component is suppressed to a predetermined second limit temperature or less.

An image forming apparatus includes a fixing unit, a detector detecting inside temperature and humidity. The apparatus executes a continuous image forming job in which first and second recording materials of first and second basis weights are mixedly included, in a first mode in which a fixing temperature of the fixing unit is set to a first temperature in a case of the first basis weight and is set to a second temperature lower than the first temperature in a case of the second basis weight smaller than the first basis weight, and in a second mode in which the setting temperature is set to a common temperature irrespective of the basis weight. A display displays that the second mode cannot be applied to the job in a case where both the inside temperature and humidity are not within a predetermined range when the second mode has been input.

A belt correction mechanism is configured to correct a position of a belt. A belt sensing section senses the position of the end of the belt. A hardware processor performs first rectification control in which the medium oscillating mechanism rectifies the position of the end of the recording medium based on sensing by the medium sensing section, and second rectification control in which the belt correction mechanism rectifies the position of the end of the belt based on sensing by the belt sensing section. The hardware processor performs a correction to the second rectification control in a case in which the first rectification control is performed with the recording medium straddling both the medium oscillating mechanism and the belt.

In a case in which a second plain paper of which the sheet length is less than the predetermined length is conveyed, the fixing roller conveys the second plain paper at a second speed less than the first speed. In a case in which an envelope of which the sheet length is less than the predetermined length is conveyed, the fixing roller conveys the second envelope at the first speed.
