An indwelling catheter surveillance system which can detect and distinguish a clean catheter system from one with bacterial colonization and from one with bacterial infection. This is done using a micro-spectroscopy system placed on the outside of an indwelling catheter's drainage tube with analysis being facilitated using machine learning algorithms. This system is based on the ability to leverage the analysis of bacteria and biomarkers in liquid bio samples at the patient's bedside, in real time to deliver a mobile, continuous, point of care, disposable and cost-effective solution. This represents a feasible and scalable system for resolving the problem of infections in indwelling catheter systems.

A urine collector includes a receptacle formed of a water soluble material, which may be a bioplastic, and has a receiving volume for collecting urine therein defined by its shape. The receiving volume is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold volume. A threshold volume indicator is configured to correspond to the predetermined threshold volume. The urine collector is configured to float in water and to remain buoyant for a time sufficient to allow a user to compare a volume of urine collected in the receiving volume to the threshold volume indicator. The urine collector may be stackable. The water soluble material may be layered on a substrate, which may be a thin sheet of paper, and may further be a non-stick paper product, such as parchment paper.

Self-Learning and Non-Invasive Bladder Monitoring Systems and Methods

Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to a self-learning bladder volume monitoring system. The system can include a bladder volume (BV) system configured to measure an electrical impedance of a bladder region of a patient and determine a volume of fluid disposed therein using an impedance to bladder volume model (By model). Further, the system can measure a total body water (TBW) for the patient and modify the BV model to account for variations in TBW within the tissues surrounding the bladder providing a more accurate bladder volume measurement. The system can include a training unit which can include one of a user input interface, an automatic urine output monitoring system, an ultrasound system, and an intrabladder pressure system configured to verify a volume of fluid within or voided from the bladder and train the BV model.

Uroflowmeter

Uroflowmeters and methods for processing data generated therefrom are disclosed. In one aspect, the uroflowmeter is a handheld device. The uroflowmeter includes a handle, a flow chamber coupled to the handle, and a sensor associated with the flow chamber that detects a parameter of urine received in the flow chamber. The uroflowmeter may include both reusable and disposable components. As a uroflowmeter it can identify and record data corresponding to the rate of flow over the measured duration of a void of urine, but may also timestamp the voiding act and communicate the data to an external data collection center for additional analysis and incorporation into a comprehensive voiding report or voiding diary.

URODYNAMIC INVESTIGATION APPARATUS, SYSTEM, & METHODS

A urodynamic investigation apparatus for receipt of urine from a bladder is provided. The apparatus is characterized by a tubular element, first and second fittings, and a sleeve element, for select passage of urine there through, within the tubular element. The tubular element is characterized by opposing first and second end portions, and a port. The fittings are adapted to be received by the opposing end portions of the tubular element so as to delimit an apparatus chamber. The sleeve element, suspended between the fittings within the chamber, has collapsed and open configurations. The collapsed configuration is indicative of a no urine flow condition, and the open configuration indicative of a urine flow condition, with the sleeve element urine flow condition being a function of pressure applied to the chamber via the port of the tubular element.
