A guide member guides the swing of a swing gear on an arc that connects a first position where the swing gear is engaged with an idle gear, and a second position where the swing gear is not engaged with the idle gear. A transmission cutoff mechanism cuts off transmission of a drive force transmitted to a driven pulley via a belt to a driven shaft when a motor rotates in the reverse direction. A control unit, in a case where rotation unevenness meets a condition, causes the swing gear to swing to the first position by reverse rotation of the motor, which causes the drive force to be transmitted to the driven shaft.

IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An image forming apparatus, having an image forming device, a reversible roller rotatable in a first direction and a second direction, a motor, a switching assembly, is provided. The switching assembly has a planetary differential gear having an input gear, a first output gear, a second output gear, and a planetary gear; a first driving-force transmitter connecting the first output gear and the reversible roller; a second driving-force transmitter connecting the second output gear and the reversible roller; and a switcher. The switcher switches conditions of the switching assembly between a first condition, wherein the reversible roller is rotated in the first direction by the first output gear allowed to output the driving force to the first driving-force transmitter, and a second condition, wherein the reversible roller is rotated in the second direction by the second output gear allowed to output the driving force to the second driving-force transmitter.

A process cartridge for use with a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the main assembly including a driving shaft, to be driven by a motor, having a rotational force applying portion, wherein the process cartridge is dismountable from the main assembly in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axial direction of the driving shaft, the process cartridge includes i) an electrophotographic photosensitive drum having a photosensitive layer at a peripheral surface thereof, the electrophotographic photosensitive drum being rotatable about an axis thereof; ii) process means actable on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum; iii) a coupling member engageable with the rotational force applying portion to receive a rotational force for rotating the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, the coupling member being capable of taking a rotational force transmitting angular position for transmitting the rotational force for rotating the electrophotographic photosensitive drum to the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and a disengaging angular position in which the coupling member is inclined away from the axis of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum from the rotational force transmitting angular position, wherein when the process cartridge is dismounted from the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, the coupling member moves from the rotational force transmitting angular position to the disengaging angular position.

Process cartridge and electrophotographic image forming apparatus

A process cartridge includes a frame, a photosensitive drum supported by the frame, and a developing roller supported by the frame. A coupling is operatively connected to the photosensitive drum, with the coupling being rotatable about an axis thereof, and with the coupling being positioned (i) at a first end of the photosensitive drum, (ii) coaxial with the photosensitive drum, and (iii) at a side of the process cartridge. A helical gear is positioned at the side of the process cartridge, the helical gear being rotatable about an axis thereof, the helical gear having a plurality of teeth, with at least some of the teeth being exposed teeth that are uncovered by the frame and exposed to outside of the process cartridge. As measured in an axial direction of the photosensitive drum, at least a part of the exposed teeth of the helical gear is positioned farther from the second end of the photosensitive drum than a tip of a projection of the coupling is positioned from the second end of the photosensitive drum.

An image forming apparatus includes an accommodating portion, a motor, and a development sensor. In the accommodating portion, a replacement developing component is fitted. The replacement developing component is fitted with a rotary member including an operating member, and stores toner. The motor rotates the rotary member on the replacement developing component fitted in the accommodating portion. When a new replacement developing component is fitted, the development sensor is not in contact with the operating member before the motor rotates the rotary member and is in contact with the operating member on the rotary member that has moved as the motor rotates. The development sensor outputs a first level when in contact with the operating member and outputs a second level when not in contact with the operating member.
