10345587 · 2019-07-09 · ·

A holographic sporting/combat optic may be mounted to weapon. The sporting/combat optic includes a holographic optical element that projects a composite reticle image having at least two reticle elements. The first reticle element projects into the optical viewing window in response to light having a first wavelength; whereas, the second reticle element projects into the optical viewing window in response to light having a second wavelength which differs from the first wavelength. By selectively turning on and off different light sources, the reticle elements can be selectively projected into the optical viewing window of the sporting/combat optic.

Holographic substrate-guided wave-based see-through display

A holographic substrate-guided wave-based see-through display has a microdisplay, capable of emitting light in the form of an image. The microdisplay directs its output to a holographic optical element, capable of accepting the image from the microdisplay, and capable of transmitting the light. The holographic optical element couples its output to an elongate substrate, capable of accepting the light from the holographic optical element at a first location, and transmitting the light along a length of the substrate by internal reflection to a second location, the elongate substrate being capable of transmitting the accepted light from the second location. The substrate couples out what it receives to a transparent holographic optical element, capable of accepting the light transmitted from the substrate and transmitting it to a location outside of the holographic optical element as a viewable image.

Method for Design and Manufacturing of Optics for Holographic Sight

A method for design and fabrication of holographic optical elements for a compact holographic sight is proposed. The method includes use of ray-trace software to design holographic elements having optical power using an intermediate hologram with parameters obtained through minimization of the merit function defining image quality.

A modular routing node includes a single input port and a plurality of output ports. The modular routing node is arranged to produce a plurality of different deflections and uses small adjustments to compensate for wavelength differences and alignment tolerances in an optical system. An optical device is arranged to receive a multiplex of many optical signals at different wavelengths, to separate the optical signals into at least two groups, and to process at least one of the groups adaptively.

The present invention features VHOEs with expanded acceptance angle ranges as well as various systems and methods for fabricating VHOEs with expanded acceptance angle ranges. The VHOE with expanded acceptance angle range may include two or more individual Bragg gratings. In preferred embodiments, the two or more individual Bragg gratings have the same diffraction geometry but with shifted Bragg conditions. Having the same diffraction geometry means when light is incident on the VHOE including two or more individual Bragg gratings, the diffracted light from each of the Bragg gratings is co-linear or overlapping with the diffracted light from the other Bragg gratings. The Bragg condition for each of the Bragg gratings are shifted with respect to each neighboring Bragg grating by an amount up to the acceptance angle range of each individual Bragg grating.

A hologram image apparatus includes a plurality of holographic panels, each holographic panel comprising a transparent panel encoded with a portion of a composite hologram image. The hologram image apparatus also includes one or more light sources configured to illuminate each holographic panel of the plurality of the holographic panels from one or more incident angles to produce the composite hologram image.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR NANOPARTICLE SIZING BASED ON TIME-RESOLVED ON-CHIP MICROSCOPY

A method for the label-free sizing of small, nanometer-sized objects such as particles includes a hand-held, portable holographic microscope that incorporates vapor condensation of nanolenses and time-resolved lens-free imaging. The portable device is used to generate reconstructed, time-resolved, and automatically-focused phase images of the sample field-of-view. The peak phase value for each object a function of working distance (z.sub.2) and condensation time (t) is used to measure object size. The sizing accuracy has been quantified in both monodisperse and heterogeneous particle solutions, achieving an accuracy of +/11 nm for particles that range from 40 nm up to 500 nm. For larger particles, the technique still works while the accuracy roughly scales with particle size.

Gun sight

A sight assembly for mounting to a weapon. A holographic optical element and a light source are in a fixed angular configuration with respect to one another, but may be adjusted either together or individually in a horizontal or vertical direction. The sight assembly may have a mirror or lens. An adjustment mechanism is provided where a shaft includes at least two portions wherein the two portions of the shaft of the screw have different pitch directions and/or pitch dimensions allowing for slight adjustment the assembly. The light source may be a vertical-cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). A temperature sensor may sense a temperature of the VCSEL. A current to the VCSEL may be adjusted based on a change in the temperature such that the output wavelength is approximately the same as a desired wavelength. The assembly may further allow for perceived image distance adjustment using parallax mismatch.
