An apparatus and computerized method of classifying a wide complex heart beat(s) comprising: providing a computing device having an input/output interface, one or more processors and a memory; receiving one or more wide complex heart beat waveform amplitudes and/or time-voltage areas, and one or more baseline heart beat waveform amplitudes and/or time-voltage areas via the input/output interface or the memory; determining a signal change between the wide complex heart beat waveform amplitudes and/or time-voltage areas and the baseline heart beat waveform amplitudes and/or time-voltage areas using the one or more processors; and providing the signal change via the input/output interface, wherein the signal change provides an indication whether the wide complex heart beat(s) is from a ventricular source or a supraventricular aberrant condition.
Human Performance Enhancement Method and Apparatus Using Upward Travelling Wave of Electrical Stimuli
A human body support has a plurality of electrodes arranged in an array and spaced longitudinally with respect to the human body. The array extends from an inferior position to a more superior position along the body. A sensor measures a parameter of the human body that is capable of indicating the presence of drowsiness. A controller has an input connected to the sensor for receiving a signal representing the sensed parameter and has outputs connected to each of the electrodes. The controller detects whether the sensed parameter is within a range indicating the presence of drowsiness and applies a wave of electrical stimuli against the human body in response to detection of a sensed parameter within the range. The electrical stimuli cause periodic tightening and relaxing of proximate muscles as the wave progresses in a direction from an inferior location on the human body toward a more superior location.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING SLEEP APNEA
An oral appliance is disclosed that provides electrical stimulation to a patient's tongue in a manner that prevents collapse of the tongue and/or soft palate during sleep. More specifically, the appliance may induce a reversible current or currents in a lateral direction across the tongue in a manner that shortens the patient's Palatoglossus muscle, which in turn pulls the patient's soft palate downward towards a base of the tongue and/or decreases a volume of the tongue.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING SLEEP APNEA
An oral appliance is disclosed that provides electrical stimulation to a patient's tongue in a manner that prevents collapse of the tongue and/or soft palate during sleep. More specifically, the appliance may induce a reversible current or currents in a lateral direction across the tongue in a manner that shortens the patient's Palatoglossus muscle, which in turn pulls the patient's soft palate downward towards a base of the tongue and/or decreases a volume of the tongue.

A method, comprising receiving at least one of a signal relating to a first cardiac activity and a signal relating to a first body movement from a patient; triggering at least one of a test of the patient's responsiveness, awareness, a second cardiac activity, a second body movement, a spectral analysis test of the second cardiac activity, and a spectral analysis test of the second body movement, based on at least one of the signal relating to the first cardiac activity and the signal relating to the first body movement; determining an occurrence of an epileptic event based at least in part on said one or more triggered tests; and performing a further action in response to said determination of said occurrence of said epileptic event. Further methods allow classification of epileptic events. Apparatus and systems capable of implementing the method.
DETECTING AND TREATING DISORDERED BREATHING
A device is disclosed that can detect and treat disordered breathing in a patient. The device can include at least one contact adapted to make contact with a portion of an oral cavity of a patient, and a control circuit configured to: in a first mode, detect a presence of disordered breathing in the patient based, at least in part, on a first signal received from the at least one contact; and in a second mode, provide electrical stimulation via the at least one contact to a portion of the patient's upper airway based on a detection of the presence of disordered breathing.
DETECTING AND TREATING DISORDERED BREATHING
A device is disclosed that can detect and treat disordered breathing in a patient. The device can include at least one contact adapted to make contact with a portion of an oral cavity of a patient, and a control circuit configured to: in a first mode, detect a presence of disordered breathing in the patient based, at least in part, on a first signal received from the at least one contact; and in a second mode, provide electrical stimulation via the at least one contact to a portion of the patient's upper airway based on a detection of the presence of disordered breathing.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY
A system and method for facilitating physical therapy that may include a wearable display, wearable sensors disposed at varying positions on a user, a processor comprising executable instructions configured to provide a virtual reality environment, virtual characters, and therapeutic activities on the wearable display, wherein the virtual characters interact with the user to provide at least form feedback and positive reinforcement. A new instance of the virtual reality environment, with identifiable differences, may be generated in response to a measured completion or partial completion of a therapeutic activity. Changes in the virtual reality environment may offer users continued indications of progression throughout the duration of a physical therapy program. The system may include a connectable device comprising a display that duplicates a portion of the wearable displays image, enables interaction within the virtual reality environment, and allows for the selection and modification of therapeutic activities.
SENSORY SUBSTITUTION
Disclosed technology includes technology for compensating for a balance dysfunction. A system can combine sensory substitution with balance dysfunction suppression. Dysfunctional balance information coming from a recipient's vestibular system is inhibited using stimulation. Balance information (e.g. how the recipient is positioned with respect to gravity, such as rotation along pitch and roll axes) is than passed to another sensory channel (e.g., visual, audible, or tactile sensory channels). Such a system can be implemented with a cochlear implant or another sensory prostheses having balance signals injected into the stimulation signal processing path.
INTRAOPERATIVE MONITORING AND SCREW PLACEMENT APPARATUS
An intraoperative monitoring module (IMM) for assessing strength of screw attachments to bone and detecting breaches includes a torque sensor on a rotatable tool receptacle and a variable-output current source. The IMM provides concurrent monitoring of rotational torque applied to a screw and stimulus current passing through the screw into bone for evoked electromyography. A motor housing configured to drive in rotation a tool receptacle on the IMM, a screw driver modified for carrying the stimulus current, and a screw attached to the screw driver are optionally included. Cooperative anti-rotation features on the motor housing and IMM support accurate torque measurements and prevent the outer housing of the IMM from rotating with the tool receptacle while a screw is being driven. The motor housing optionally provides electrical power to the IMM.
