DIGITAL BIOMARKERS FOR MUSCULAR DISABILITIES
A method of assessing a muscular disability and, preferably, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in a subject is disclosed. A performance parameter is determined from a dataset of pressure measurements of the individual finger strength from the subject using a mobile device and is compared to a reference whereby the muscular disability and, preferably, SMA is assessed.
DIFFUSION IMAGING IN PARKINSON'S DISEASE AND PARKINSONISM
A treatment efficacy of a treatment for treating a parkinsonian disease is determined. A first set of imaging information/data associated with a dMRI scan of an individual's brain captured at a first time and a second set of imaging information/data associated with a dMRI scan of the individual's brain captured at a second time are received. The individual underwent the treatment for a time period comprising at least part of the time between the first and second times. An expected change between the first and second times is determined based on a natural progression of the parkinsonian disease. The first and second sets of imaging information/data are analyzed to determine a first free-water pattern and a second free-water pattern. Based on the first and second free-water patterns, a disease progression score is determined. Based on the disease progression score and the expected change, a treatment efficacy for treating the individual with the treatment is determined.

Embodiments of the present systems and methods may relate to a non-invasive system with diagnostic and treatment capacities that use a unified code that is intrinsic to physiological brain function. For example, in an embodiment, a computer-implemented method for affecting living neural tissue may comprise receiving at least one signal from at least one read modality, the signal representing release of photons from mitochondria of the living neural tissue, computing at least one signal to effect alterations to the living neural tissue based on the received input signal, the computed signal adapted to cause transmission of photons to the living neural tissue, and delivering the photons to the living neural tissue to effect alterations to the living tissue.
AUGMENTED REALITY DISPLAY SYSTEM FOR EVALUATION AND MODIFICATION OF NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS, INCLUDING VISUAL PROCESSING AND PERCEPTION CONDITIONS
In some embodiments, a display system comprising a head-mountable, augmented reality display is configured to perform a neurological analysis and to provide a perception aid based on an environmental trigger associated with the neurological condition. Performing the neurological analysis may include determining a reaction to a stimulus by receiving data from the one or more inwardly-directed sensors; and identifying a neurological condition associated with the reaction. In some embodiments, the perception aid may include a reminder, an alert, or virtual content that changes a property, e.g. a color, of a real object. The augmented reality display may be configured to display virtual content by outputting light with variable wavefront divergence, and to provide an accommodation-vergence mismatch of less than 0.5 diopters, including less than 0.25 diopters.

The present invention provides for a system and method, which can accurately and repeatably quantify symptoms of movements disorders, accurately quantifies symptoms utilizing both kinetic information and/or electromyography (EMG) data, that can be worn continuously to provide continuous information to be analyzed as needed by the clinician, that can provide analysis in real-time, that allows for home monitoring of symptoms in subject's with these movement disorders to capture the complex fluctuation patterns of the disease over the course of days, weeks or months, that maximizes subject safety, and that provides substantially real-time remote access to data by the clinician or physician.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ASSESSING ADVANCED KINETIC SYMPTOMS
A method of determining a state of progression in a subject of a disease or treatment having motion symptom comprises obtaining a time series of motion data from a motion detector worn on an extremity of the subject, over an extended period during usual activities of the subject; processing the motion data to produce a plurality of measures of kinetic state of the subject at a respective plurality of times throughout the extended period, each measure of kinetic state comprising at least one of: a measure for bradykinesia, and a measure for dyskinesia; determining a measure of dispersion of the measures of kinetic state; combining the measure of dispersion with at least one other data characteristic determined from the motion data, to produce a selection score; and generating an output indicating the selection score.
RHYTHMIC SYNCHRONIZATION OF MOTOR NEURON DISCHARGES AND THEIR BURST RATE VARIABILITY
Methods, systems, and apparatus for detecting rhythmic synchronization of motor neurons. The system includes one or more sensors for receiving a first signal that measures an electrical signal of one or more neurons, the first signal having a first plurality of specific bursts. The system includes a processor connected to the one or more sensors. The processor is configured to receive the first signal. The processor is configured to generate a second signal based on the first signal using a discrete wavelet transform, the second signal having a second plurality of specific bursts. The processor is configured to determine a time delay between a specific burst within the first plurality of specific bursts and a specific burst within the second plurality of specific bursts using one or more expert rules. The processor is configured to apply the time delay to the first signal.
MODELING A NEURONAL CONTROLLER EXHIBITING HUMAN POSTURAL SWAY
Conventionally, a neuronal controller located inside the central nervous system governing the maintenance of the upright posture of the human body is designed from a control system perspective using proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers, wherein human postural sway is modeled either along a sagittal plan or along a frontal plane separately resulting in limited insights on intricacies of a governing neuronal controller. Also, existing neuronal controllers using a reinforcement learning (RL) paradigm are based on complex actor-critic on-policy algorithms. Analyzing human postural sway is critical to detect markers for progression of balance impairments. The present disclosure facilitates modelling the neuronal controller using a simplified RL algorithm, capable of producing postural sway characteristics in both sagittal and frontal plane together. The 0-learning technique of the RL paradigm is employed for learning an optimal state-action value (0-value) function for a tuneable Markov Decision Process (MDP) model.
