SYSTEMS AND METHODS TO ASSESS BALANCE
20200205698 · 2020-07-02 ·

This disclosure relates to a system and method to analyze balance and stability of a patient. Test data for the patient, representing motion of a device affixed to the patient during a test interval, can be received. The test data can be processed to provide processed data (or sensor-derived data) that includes at least one of acceleration data, rotational rate data and rotational position data for the test interval. A biomechanical model can be applied to the processed data to provide center of mass (COM) motion data representing movement of the COM in multiple dimensions for the patient during the test interval. An indication of balance for the patient can be determined based on the COM motion data. The indication of balance can be used to analyze the balance and stability of the patient.

Device and method for monitoring and assessment of movement disorder symptoms

The present invention is directed to a device and method for monitoring and assessment of movement disorder symptoms. The device and method disclosed herein are particularly amenable to remote monitoring of a subject's movement disorder symptoms. Briefly stated, in certain preferred embodiments of the present invention the movement disorder monitoring device accompanies a subject to a remote location where the device is used to record data relating to the severity of a subject's movement disorder symptoms over a period of time. This data is then subsequently used by physicians or other clinicians in optimizing and assessing treatment options directed at alleviating a subject's movement disorder symptoms. The method and device of the present invention can be used to monitor symptoms of a number of movement disorders including but not limited to dystonia, essential tremor, Huntington's disease, various ataxias, multiple sclerosis, psychogenic tremor, and Parkinson's disease.

A system for inhibiting shaking includes multiple parallel tracks each to join a plurality of mini gyroscopes (MG) in series, the parallel tracks joined at one or more control junctures and disposed on a flexible substrate wrap. The system includes multiple MG accumulated in series in the parallel tracks via a user's action(s), the MG configured to spin 90 degrees relative to each other and a single parallel track at a magnitude and a direction of relative angular velocities. The system additionally includes mini accelerometers and a digital processing circuit to differentiate shaking and purposeful movement via a first and a second derivative of accelerations of portions of the flexible substrate wrap. The system further includes a microcontroller to control the variable angular momentum and the spin axis of the MG to ablate shaking relative to purposeful movement of portions of the substrate wrap.

Instrumented physiotherapeutic, ambulatory, and mobility vest to monitor and provide feedback to patients and caregivers

Improved methods and systems are disclosed for a physiotherapeutic device having a waist tensioning system and a spine support system that may enable correction and/or maintaining of postural stance for individuals suffering from poor posture and/or neurodegenerative disease. The physiotherapeutic device includes a tensioner mechanism. Waist straps attached to the lumbar expansion portion may be configured to be routed through the anchor and wrapped around the vest when the user wears the device. The device also includes shoulder straps, each having a first end attached to a top, rear portion of the vest and a second end attached to the central member. The physiotherapeutic device may be outfitted with sensors to detect statuses and symptoms relevant to the patient and caregiver and to provide reporting and feedback to both the patient and caregiver.

MONITORING APPARATUS OF MOTION PATTERN

This invention is related to motion pattern monitoring apparatus, comprising: measurement module and monitoring unit; with the said measurement modules being placed in the part of the body of the patient to be monitored; with the monitoring unit being carried by the patient; with the monitoring unit connected by wireless communication to the said measurement modules; with the said measurement modules acquiring the motion signals from the patient and transmitting the motion signals to the monitoring unit, with the monitoring unit analyzing the motion signals to detect the peaks of the signals and to measure the peak amplitudes and peak intervals between two consecutive peaks, and accordingly to identify the motion pattern based on the said peak information. The invention uses the peak amplitudes and peak intervals to detect the motion patterns.

POSTURAL SWAY ANALYSIS SYSTEM AND METHOD

A postural sway analysis system is disclosed. The system includes a camera worn by an individual, a processing unit coupled to the camera, a floor marker placed on a floor near the shoes or feet of the individual. The camera is configured to acquire images of the floor marker, which has a known size or diameter, while the individual is standing. The processing unit is configured to capture an initial calibration image of the floor marker using the camera while an individual is standing still to determine the distance between the camera and the floor marker. The processing unit is further configured to capture subsequent time-varying images of the floor marker while the individual is standing (and swaying). Furthermore, the processing unit is configured to compare the calibration images to the subsequent time-varying images to determine a postural sway of the individual.
