Devices, systems and methods for detecting a bilateral differential in olfactory threshold for pure odorants
09801581 · 2017-10-31 · ·

The present system is directed in various embodiments to devices, systems and methods for detection, evaluation and/or monitoring olfactory dysfunction by measuring and determining the patient's olfactory detection threshold for the left and the right nostril. More specifically, the present invention relates to devices, systems and methods for detecting an asymmetric differential in a patient's olfactory detection threshold (left vs right nostril) which, when present, may be used as a device to detect, diagnose and/or monitor olfactory deterioration resulting from certain neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.

Device for Diagnosing Brain Disease

To provide a device which can diagnose a brain disease by observing a pupil diameter. A device for diagnosing a brain disease, equipped with a display image control section (3), an imaging section (5) and a judgment section (7), wherein the display image control section (3) can vary a display image displayed on a display section on the basis of a first pattern, the imaging section (5) can take an image of the pupil of a user who watches the display image, and the judgment section (7) can determine whether or not the user is affected with a brain disease using a pattern of the time-dependent change in the size of the pupil of the user which is imaged by the imaging section and the first pattern.

Ocular detection of amyloid proteins

Described are methods for the detection, in the eye of an individual, of protein aggregates or other misfolded proteins associated with disease using peptide or peptide mimic probes that preferentially associate with the protein aggregates or misfolded proteins, which can be accomplished non-invasively.

Remote valve reopening

An abnormal consumption detection system is provided with remote valve control for a distributed water infrastructure. The system may comprise an electronically controllable valve, a remote communication transmitter, a remote communication receiver, at least one sensor for measuring water flow information associated with the distributed water infrastructure, and at least one processor. The system may determine from the water flow information obtained from the at least one sensor a potential abnormal consumption associated with the distributed water infrastructure. The system may automatically close a valve, without human intervention, when the potential abnormal consumption is determined. The system may transmit, via the remote communication transmitter to a remote administrator, alert information about the potential abnormal consumption to enable an administrator to decide based on the transmitted information whether to reopen the valve. The system may receive from the administrator via the remote communication receiver a control signal to reopen the valve, despite the information about the potential abnormal consumption, and reopen the valve.

Method for detecting a conversion from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer disease

A data processing method for detecting the conversion from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer disease (AD), allowing objectively quantifying the effects that this has on the patient's electroencephalogram (EEG). The method of the invention provides an objective criterion for monitoring the brain health status of MCI subjects, which goes alongside the other criteria of neurological, psychological, clinical and cognitive assessment normally provided by the evaluation protocols of these patients.

NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASE SCREENING USING AN OLFACTOMETER

Systems and methods of the present invention provide for an olfactometer for delivering one or more odors and one or more computing devices configured to: receive user input for an odor memory test and an odor discrimination test; calculate a score for the odor memory test and the odor discrimination test; calculate a first and second confidence interval threshold and a second confidence interval threshold for a first and second predicted odor memory score respectively, based on a relationship between, respectively, the odor memory test score and odor discrimination test score, and previously-entered performance data queried from the database; and responsive to the score for the odor memory test not being greater than the first confidence interval threshold and the score for the odor discrimination test not being greater than the second confidence interval threshold, generate a report identifying a user as high risk for a neurodegenerative disease.

Brain stimulation system including diagnostic tool

A system for treating a patient comprises a stimulator for stimulating brain tissue, a controller for setting stimulation parameters and a diagnostic tool for measuring patient parameters and producing diagnostic data. The stimulation parameters comprise test stimulation parameters and treatment stimulation parameters. The stimulator delivers test stimulation energy to the brain tissue based on at least one test stimulation parameter and delivers treatment stimulation energy to the brain tissue based on at least one treatment stimulation parameter. One or more treatment stimulator parameters are determined based on the diagnostic data produced by the diagnostic tool The system is constructed and arranged to treat a neurological disease or a neurological disorder. Methods of treating a neurological disease or neurological disorder are also provided.

Source localization of EEG signals

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for performing EEG source localization. One of the methods includes obtaining brain data comprising: EEG data comprising respective channel data corresponding to each of a plurality of electrodes of an EEG sensor, and fMRI data comprising respective voxel data corresponding to each of a plurality of voxels; identifying, in a three-dimensional coordinate system, a respective location for each electrode; generating, using the respective identified locations of each electrode, data representing a location in the three-dimensional coordinate system of each voxel; determining, for each electrode, a region of interest in the three-dimensional coordinate system; and identifying, for each electrode, one or more corresponding parcellations in the brain of the subject, wherein each parcellation that corresponds to an electrode at least partially overlaps with the region of interest of the electrode.
