Low-Coherence Interferometry and Optical Coherence Tomography for Image-Guided Surgical Treatment of Solid Tumors
A system for providing intraoperative feedback to a user during the course of surgery. A core imaging unit provides low-coherence optical radiation coupled to a sampling device and generates optical coherence tomography (OCT) data based on combining scattered light received from the sampling device together with a reference signal. The sampling device is adapted to receive the low-coherence optical radiation from the core imaging unit and to illuminate the tissue, and to collect light scattered by the tissue and to return said light to the core imaging unit. A core software unit receives the OCT data from the core imaging unit provides real-time feedback, such as an image, to the user via an indicator.
Apparatus and method for airway registration and navigation
A surgical instrument navigation system is provided that visually simulates a virtual volumetric scene of a body cavity of a patient from a point of view of a surgical instrument residing in the cavity of the patient. The surgical instrument navigation system includes: a surgical instrument; an imaging device which is operable to capture scan data representative of an internal region of interest within a given patient; a tracking subsystem that employs electro-magnetic sensing to capture in real-time position data indicative of the position of the surgical instrument; a data processor which is operable to render a volumetric, perspective image of the internal region of interest from a point of view of the surgical instrument; and a display which is operable to display the volumetric perspective image of the patient.
Apparatus, systems, and methods for measuring environmental exposure and physiological response thereto
Systems and methods for monitoring various physiological and environmental factors, as well as systems and methods for using this information for a plurality of useful purposes, are provided. Real-time, noninvasive health and environmental monitors include a plurality of compact sensors integrated within small, low-profile devices. Physiological and environmental data is collected and wirelessly transmitted into a wireless network, where the data is stored and/or processed. This information is then used to support a variety of useful methods, such as clinical trials, marketing studies, biofeedback, entertainment, and others.
Methods and systems for intra-operatively providing anatomical guidance in surgery
In one aspect, the present invention relates to a process for intra-operatively providing anatomical guidance in endocrine surgery. In one embodiment, the process includes the steps of illuminating tissues in the neck area of a living subject with a beam of light having a predetermined wavelength, obtaining Raman data from light scattered from the illuminated tissues, finding Raman signatures corresponding to thyroid or parathyroid tissues from the obtained Raman data, and identifying the thyroid or parathyroid tissues from the corresponding Raman signatures.
Apparatus and methods for spatial encoding of FFL-based MPI devices
Selection-focus coils de-signed for 3D FFL-based MPI may allow for spatial encoding without additional shift coils and provide relatively large FOV and field gradient with very flat FFL. Additionally, a single-sided FFL-based device which is capable of 3D imaging is disclosed. With sufficient current amplitudes, FFL could encode the whole volume of a small animal or penetrate deep into human organs such as the vascular system or lymph nodes. An MPI device based on the proposed selection scheme could be a compact and robust alternative to the state-of-the-art FFP (FFL)-based MPI scanners.
INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD
An information processing apparatus includes: an image acquisition unit that acquires first image data for a first object and second image data for a second object that corresponds to a portion that forms a pair with the first object; a setting unit that sets a region of interest for the first image data and a region of interest for the second image data; an index value acquisition unit that acquires an index value that represents a characteristic feature within the region of interest set for the first image data and an index value that represents a characteristic feature within the region of interest set for the second image data; and an acquisition unit that, based on the results of a comparison of the index values, acquires information indicating the possible presence of a lesion in at least one of the first object and the second object.
IMAGING SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TISSUE DIFFERENTIATION, E.G., FOR INTRAOPERATIVE VISUALIZATION
Described herein is a multiplex platform that uses ultrasmall nanoparticles (e.g., C dots and C dots) to graphically differentiate specific nerves (e.g., sensory nerves vs. motor nerves) for nerve transplants and other surgeries. Also described herein is a multiplex platform that uses ultrasmall nanoparticles (e.g., C dots and C dots) to graphically differentiate between different types of lymph nodes and/or lymphatic pathways, e.g., to safely and effectively perform vascularized lymph node transplantation in the treatment of lymphedema. Also described herein is a multiplex platform that uses ultrasmall nanoparticles (e.g., C dots and C dots) to graphically differentiate parathyroid tissue.
WEARABLE AUDIO DEVICES
A wearable audio device includes a housing configured to be positioned at an ear of a subject, a speaker and a chipset within the housing. The chipset includes a plurality of sensor elements, at least one signal processor, at least one digital bus, power regulating circuitry, and at least one wireless transmitter. The sensor elements include at least one optical emitter, at least one optical detector, and at least one noise source. The chipset is positioned within the housing such that the at least one optical emitter and at least one optical detector are in optical communication with the ear via a window in the housing. The at least one signal processor includes sensor signal conditioning algorithms configured to process signals from the sensor elements to generate physiological assessment information about the subject. The at least one wireless transmitter is configured to communicate the physiological assessment information to a remote device.
Intra-operative head and neck nerve mapping
The invention provides both systems and kits for medical imaging of nerves in the head and neck of a subject.
Systems and methods for treatment of fluid overload
Various systems and methods are provided for reducing pressure at an outflow of a duct, such as the thoracic duct or the lymphatic duct, for example, the right lymphatic duct. A catheter system can be configured to be at least partially implanted within a vein of a patient in the vicinity of an outflow port of a duct of the lymphatic system. The catheter system includes first and second selectively deployable restriction members each configured to be activated to at least partially occlude the vein within which the catheter is implanted and to thus restrict fluid within a portion of the vein. The catheter system includes an impeller configured to be driven by a motor to induce a low pressure zone between the restriction members by causing blood to be pumped through the catheter when the restriction members occlude the vein.
