Surface tissue tracking

Tissue surface tracking of tissue features is disclosed. First surface imaged features are tracked based on the first and second time spaced images at a first wavelength. Second surface imaged features are tracked based on the first and second time spaced tissue surface images at the second wavelength. Tracking metrics are obtained based on the tracking steps. The tracking steps are combined to provide a combined tracking metric. The combined tracking metric is used in a tissue surface navigation application.

A system for characterizing tissue includes a probe that delivers a continuous and periodic mechanical vibration to a tissue of a subject; an ultrasound emitter that emits a sequence of ultrasound shots and an ultrasound receiver that receives corresponding echo signals to track how the tissue is moved by the periodic mechanical vibration delivered to the tissue; and a control module programmed to provide homogeneity information to an operator of the system, the homogeneity information being determined from at least some of the echo signals and being representative of the ability of the tissue to transmit elastic waves and of the homogeneity of the tissue with respect to the propagation of elastic waves.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATING BODY TEMPERATURE, AND HEALTHCARE DEVICE

An apparatus for estimating body temperature of an object is provided. The apparatus for estimating body temperature includes: a sensor configured to obtain spectra through a plurality of light paths of an object; and a processor configured to obtain a temperature slope between temperatures corresponding to the plurality of light paths based on the spectra of the plurality of light paths and a reference spectrum measured at a reference temperature, and estimate the body temperature of the object based on the temperature slope.

INTRADERMAL DRUG DELIVERY DEVICE

A method of fluid delivery into a person's skin includes receiving a fluid delivery time indicating the amount of time required for a delivery of the fluid through a microneedle array of the intradermal fluid delivery device into the person's skin. The processor repeatedly turns the air pump on or off, for the fluid to gradually be injected into the person's skin. The method controls the total fluid delivery time and/or the granularity of the fluid delivery. The total fluid delivery time may be set to T, and the time period T may be divided into smaller periods t.sub.1 to t.sub.n, where the fluid may be administered in a period t1, the fluid delivery may then be stopped for a period t2, followed by another fluid delivery period, etc. The periods t1 to tn may be the same or of different lengths.

Enhancing pigmentation in dermoscopy images

Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for modifying images of skin so as to reduce or enhance the appearance of component pigments, such as melanin and hemoglobin. A diffuse reflectance image of skin, such as a cross-polarized contact dermoscopy image, which conveys information regarding subsurface features of the skin, is processed so as to extract pigment distribution information, which is then used to correct the diffuse reflectance image, such as by reducing the appearance of melanin to allow better visualization of hemoglobin-related structures, such as vasculature. Alternatively, the diffuse reflectance image can be corrected so as to reduce the appearance of hemoglobin to allow better visualization of melanin-related structures.

OPTOACOUSTIC PROBE

An optoacoustic probe for optoacoustic imaging of a volume is provided that includes a housing extending from a distal end operable to contact the volume to a proximal end. The optoacoustic probe includes a light source configured to generate light that is transmitted along a light pathway to generate return signals when the light reacts with the volume, and a transducer assembly including a transducer configured to receive the optoacoustic return signals and an acoustic lens provided over the transducer. The optoacoustic probe also includes a steering assembly coupled within the housing and configured to steer the light pathway to generate the light along the light pathway at different scanning areas of the volume based on the return signals.
