APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PULLING A STRAND OF HAIR

A hair pulling apparatus includes a frame having a longitudinal axis, a first leg extending from the frame, a movable leg spaced apart from the first leg, the movable leg extending from the frame and movable, linearly, relative to the frame, a control system comprising a processor to execute a plurality of pulling profile instructions stored in memory, a linear actuator operatively coupled to the control system and constructed to move linearly along the longitudinal axis relative to the frame, a gripper coupled to the linear actuator, and a load cell coupled to the linear actuator. When one or more of the plurality of pulling profile instructions stored in memory are executed by the processor, the control system causes the linear actuator to retract along the longitudinal axis, applying a pulling force to a strand of hair gripped by the gripper in order to measure the pulling force.

Method and system for analyzing physical conditions using digital images

Systems and methods are provided for analyzing conditions associated with a physical feature using digital images. The method comprises acquiring a white-light image and an ultraviolet (UV) image of at least a portion of a body surface, such as a person's face, each of the white-light and UV images including a plurality of pixels and each pixel in the UV image corresponding to a respective pixel in the white-light image. The method further comprises identifying feature pixels in the white-light and UV images, and obtaining results associated with at least one physical condition using information in the feature pixels in the first white light and UV images.

SELECTING OPTIMAL IMAGE FROM MOBILE DEVICE CAPTURES

Device logic in a mobile device configures a processor to capture a series of images, such as a video, using a consumer-grade camera, and to analyze the images to determine the best-focused image, of the series of images, that captures a region of interest. The images may be of a textured surface, such as facial skin of a mobile device user. The processor sets a focal length of the camera to a fixed position for collecting the images. The processor may guide the user to position the mobile device for capturing the images, using audible cues. For each image, the processor crops the image to the region of interest, extracts luminance information, and determines one or more energy levels of the luminance via a Laplacian pyramid. The energy levels may be filtered, and then are compared to energy levels of the other images to determine the best-focused image.
