Systems, apparatuses, and methods for diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders (TMD)
11957479 · 2024-04-16 ·

A method for diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and related systems and apparatuses are disclosed. In the method, a visual evaluation of the patient in a standing position is first conducted. Condyle position in ear canals of the patient is palpated during jaw movement. A hip level of the patient is evaluated when back teeth of the patient are closed. If hips are unlevel, a first spacer is inserted between front teeth of the patient. The condyle position felt in the ear canals of the patient are re-palpated during jaw movements with the first spacer in place. The patient then raises and lowers his or her body by going up on their toes, and dropping to their heels. A reevaluation of the hip level of the patient is conducted and a positive or negative TMD diagnosis is indicated based on the reevaluation of the hip level of the patient.

METHOD FOR RECORDING JAW MOVEMENTS

A method for recording jaw movements of a patient includes detachably adhering dental brackets to teeth surfaces of the teeth of a lower jaw of the patient, attaching a position marker and a sensor element which detects the position marker to a head of the patient, and recording, via a jaw movement, a relative movement of the sensor element relative to the position marker. The sensor element is attached to a skull of the patient, and the position marker is attached to the lower jaw of the patient via the dental brackets, or the sensor element is attached to the lower jaw of the patient via the dental brackets, and the position marker is attached to the skull of the patient.

Method, apparatus and program for selective registration three-dimensional tooth image data to optical scanning tooth model

A method for registering a tooth image with a tooth structure according to an embodiment includes a first registering step for registering a tooth image model obtained from a medical image taken when an object bites a bite including a marker with a bite scanning model obtained by scanning the bite, a second registering step for registering the bite scanning model with a tooth scanning model obtained by scanning a tooth shape of the object, and a third registering step for registering the tooth image model with the tooth scanning model based on the results of the first registering step and the results of the second registering step. As a result, a model including an accurate shape of tooth part difficult to obtain from a medical imaging apparatus can be easily obtained.

PRESSURE SENSING BRACE AND METHODS OF USING SAME

A pressure sensing brace includes a strap having two sides, one side configured to be positioned over and removably fastened to a body surface over a preselected body muscle. The brace further includes a pressure sensor integrated with the strap and configured to detect changes in pressure applied to said one side of said strap in response to a change in the status of said preselected body muscle from a relaxed state to a flexed state, and vice versa. The pressure sensing brace can include a haptic feedback module, visual indicators, motion sensors, and other forms of indicators that will provide a means when the strap experiences a certain level of pressure. The brace can provide feedback allowing a user to monitor the state of a body part involved in a certain activity so the user can adjust their effort level based upon the tension in the body part.

METHOD FOR DETECTING THE MOVEMENT OF A TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT
20190290190 · 2019-09-26 · ·

Described is a method for detecting and displaying the movement of a temporomandibular joint which connects a lower jaw and an upper jaw by magnetic resonance imaging. A marker is secured to the lower jaw, a marker movement curve is generated using magnetic resonance imaging measurement data sets during a first measurement interval, during which the lower jaw is moved relative to the upper jaw, and a point which corresponds to a first position of the lower jaw relative to the upper jaw is ascertained on the movement curve. An image data set is generated during a second measurement interval, during which the temporomandibular joint is not moved, and a first model, which represents at least one part of the upper jaw and/or a temporal bone part that comprises the temporomandibular joint socket, and a second model, which represents at least one part of the lower jaw, are ascertained therefrom. A movement curve of the second model relative to the first model is calculated and displayed using the marker movement curve.

The present invention discloses an oral scanner, including an outer casing, a reflector, a heat source, an optical module and a forced convection element. The outer casing has a cavity. The reflector is located at the front end of the cavity. The heat source is located in the outer casing. The optical module is located in the casing. A heat channel is formed between the optical module and the outer casing. The forced convection element is disposed in the heat channel and configured to forcedly dissipate the waste heat of the heat source to the cavity to heat the reflector. Thus, the temperature of the heat source can be reduced, and vapor will not be generated on the reflector heated by the waste heat.
