The second wireless device has an internal power source and is configured to transmit one or more radio frequency signals to the first wireless device. The first wireless device is configured to receive the one or more radio frequency signals from the second wireless device. The first wireless device is configured to harvest energy from the one or more radio frequency signals. The first wireless device is enabled for operation after a predetermined amount of energy is harvested from the one or more radio frequency signals. A communication handshake occurs between the first and second wireless devices to indicate that the first wireless device is in communication with the second wireless device. The first wireless device is configured to perform at least one task from harvested energy.

A joint implant includes a first implant coupled to a first bone of a joint and a second implant coupled to a second bone of the joint. The second implant includes at least one of a first sensor configured to measure a first type of data, and a processor operatively coupled to the at least one of the first sensor. The process outputs the first type of data to a network to be compared with data received from other joint implants. One of the joint or the implant is determined to be in a first state based on a comparison of the first type of data to a set of predetermined values formed based on the data received from the other joint implants. The predetermined values are adapted to change with the addition of new data.
